It looks like Spore is coming to Steam, maybe other EA titles will come too. This is great news, maybe they don't use buggy and annoying Securom DRM on Steam titles, I hope so...

Doubtful, they already added SecuROM on top of Steam on some other games like BioShock, I see no reason to expect anything less from EA's games that already have SecuROM protection.

Looks to me like they plan on having their own DRM along with that of Steam. That would be a no go for me for sure, well just being on Steam is a no go for me personally.
What I am thinking is that is the Crysis and Crysis Warhead EULA. I would love to see EA games on steam with no additional drm, to add further speculation to the fire in the Bioware offtopic forums in the drm thread one of the mods asked us what we would think of Mass Effect hitting steam with no additonal drm.

I wouldn't bet on it. Would be neat if they really dropped SecuROM, though - Steam's enough DRM in itself.

it really truly is... i don't understand why they use additional drm..

Because SecuROM stops -365 day piracy!!! And kills germs!!! And gets your whites whiter!!! :D

A version without SecuROM makes it easier to crack the one with, supposedly.

Why would that matter? The games don't show up on Steam until long after they've been cracked anyway.

Yeah, as if it matters at all :>

It's to keep the publishers happy.
(Rather than have them learn to be a little less restrictive *grumble*)

SecuROM says NO to blacks.

I always knew SecuROM was racist.
holy moly.. I guess I'm the most quotable person here.
In case anyone is still wondering: yes, Electronic Arts has just joined Steam.
NOT only that, but all of the games, from what I've seen in the Steam forums are *DRM FREE*.
Now if they actually start releasing some of their good back catalog stuff either here or on Steam, it'll probably be the end of the world. Raining cats and dogs and all that.
Here's a list of what's on there from a screenshot I took earlier ( I live in the U.S.):

Plus: Red Alert 3, Dead Space, and Mirror's Edge are coming next month.
Now if they would just put the likes of the classic Command & Conquer series, the classic Need for Speed series, the classic Sim games (especially SimTower), the classic Westwood games (Dune, Kyrandia, Lands of Lore, Nox, etc), the Bullfrog Games (Dungeon Keeper), American McGee's Alice, and Clive Barker's Undying on here and/or Steam, I'll take back everything bad I've ever said about them, because they will have, in fact, redeemed themselves.
Oh yeah, and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is $5 this weekend. I bought it because I've been waiting for it to drop, and you should get it too! =D
