I'd like to know just how liked social features and achievements actually are. I have a feeling that the majority of people don't actually care for it and this apparent desire for more of it is completely invented by publishers. I can't think of a single time that I went and looked at achievements that people have gotten.

Personally I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with some "social" features like an in-game chat overlay such as Xfire or Steam chat since I do like to chat with a few friends while playing, but things like achievements, badges, and the new trading cards are p. lame to me and I wish I could disable all that shit without having to turn off in-game chatting too.
Um,what are the achievments even for, except even collecting them and showing off?
The only time I cared about achievements was when playing Botanicula, as the achievements in that game are an invitation to explore the world further and are rather silly. But most of the times when I get an achievement is like having my mother by my side telling me again how proud she is because I am learning how to walk.
