It would be nice if GOG could get into console games. Hook up an emulator to a rom, give it the GOG treatment, and there would be a lot more games that GOG could sell. I also wish that I could legally own my favorite console games on the PC.
I suspect you're familiar with them already... but until this happens, you may find that Gametap services some of your console / arcade gaming needs.
I'm not a big fan of their service, but as you're in the US you'll probably even get access to a decent collection of free games, which change every few weeks.
Fuck Gametap. Now that they're bought and run by a bunch of Frenchmen, I thought things would be better. But NO. Instead I am greeted by moronic restrictions when I try to play games there.
Crazy Taxi would be awesome on GOG, anyway. Why bother paying a monthly fee and pretend to own it?
GameTap isn't available outside the U.S. and Canada, and if you're running a 64-bit OS you can't play any DOS or Windows games. They have recently dropped the excellent Player client in favour of a "beta" browser plugin that is unstable and lacks most of the Player's features, and fees have increased for all new subscriptions (by $10 a month, if I recall correctly).
GameTap used to a great choice for those wanting cheap and legal access to thousands of games, but with the recent changes and continued lack of 64-bit support it's really not a great deal any more.
Keep the damn console games AWAY FROM ME. Also away from GoG.

You owe them a lot, whether you like it or not.

What, exactly?
If GOG can get the rights for games that are on dead platforms I don't see why not.
Personally I'd love to see the playstation versions of Front Mission released for pc. Given their strategic bent I think it'd be a good fit for GOG. The first Front Mission has already been translated for SNES and to my knowledge other than graphics upgrades there's no difference between versions.
IMO better if gog stays with PC games only.
Considering how console companies are resurrecting old console games through their own digital distribution systems, I highly doubt we will see any on GOG anytime soon. As long as you can buy old console games through the Wii Shop, Xbox Live and PSN, there is no reason for console games to be licensed/distributed for the PC. Better that GOG focus on the PC market only for now, they'll have better luck expanding the catalog with that.

And with enough time (and luck) some publisher will ask something along the lines of "hey, gog, how would you like selling a couple of our fine old console games? we'd like to try and get some revenue from PC gamers as they seem more inclined to buy old games than console gamers do".

I'm curious about this too, especially considering that all of the current generation consoles are pretty much PCs with a restrictive operating system, like a Windows machine in kiosk mode. If anything, the consoles owe everything to the PC: the first computer games were not on consoles, but rather on precursors to the modern PC; all the hardware innovations in current consoles have come directly from the PC market; virtually every game genre out there originated on the PC (or in the arcade). Basically, the goal of the console has always been a way to get PC and/or arcade style gaming into the home, without the hassle of dealing with hardware, software and OS upgrades that can make PC gaming an unpleasant adventure or needing the ginormous cabinet-style arcade machine. Console games owe much to the PC, not the other way around.
Considering the popularity of roms, this should of been capitalised on long ago. Or at least after the systems support/life-span.
I'm still convinced that getting old console games to PCs would be a great thing. There is hardly any alternative on this platform. And as far as my limited view sees it, there is a big untapped market. Hell, I'd buy plenty of stuff from the 8 and 16 bit era, but I'm not buying another $xhundred machine to do so.
As a PC player, I'm stuck with PC games (Or e-bay for old carts). Not that that is bad, but the options could be so much better.
It has always been my perception that early consoles popularized gaming enough for the current gaming market in general to exist as it does today. I make no statements about consoles today.-
EDIT: It appears that I have been making more outrageous posts than usual today, looking back on the things I have said. Please don't perceive me as being particularly attached to this point, because I am not as confident as my original post suggested.
