My laptop is really annoying me. On some games (Sacrifice, No One Lives Forever and Farcry and others) my laptop crashes after getting to certain point. There seems to be no link. It just happens in some games and doesn't happen in others. In No One Lives Forever example when I try to enter the hotel in Germany (4th Mission, Scene 1) the screen goes blank and the sound loops. My computer won't respond and I have to turn it off. It does for many games for no apparant reason it seems. Is it a virus something? I'm really getting sick and tired of this happening.
(yes I am using compatiblity mode, same thing happens).

Well for those games that you bought off GOG, it would be best to peruse the forums for those games and send a message to tech support. As for the others, not sure what is going on with them, but Vista tends to be a bit problematic when running older games without some major tweaking...

It can be a lot of things, from a driver problem to overheating.
The first thing to do IMHO is to upgrade all you drivers and then download the latest 3D mark and run it multiple time to see if you computer is stable under heavy load.

Vista (or Seven for that matter) is problematic for older games (especially the 64bit version) but usually it doens't crash, the game crash but not the system.

You can also use 3d Analyze for some problematic games ....

How? I don't know what altering the graphic settings would do. Like I've said it only does this on some games but others such as Max Payne, Giants and MDK work fine.

It would crash your game and then you can try other safer settings....

I shall try running it on lowest graphics settings then...
Well I just ran No One Lives Forever on lowest settings on Primary Driver. It works.

First of all, try updating (last updated March 23) and [url=http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforce_notebook_winvista_179.48_beta.html]GeForce for Notebooks (last updated February 11).
If that doesn't fix it, try changing your power settings to the highest setting (should be called something like "high performance" or "always on"). This will chew through your battery much more quickly but it will ensure the system is getting all the power it needs.
Might be a bad stick of RAM, as this can cause both the breadth and manner of crashing you described. To check if this is the issue run something like Memtest (for at least a few hours, preferably overnight).
