That on the other hand is an argument that I can accept and I still don't get how some developers can be too lazy to create at least different menu systems. It's not like UI-design is rocket science.
Of course, controls are a good deal harder depending on how much the game depends on a particular control scheme (I've just played the last Prince of Persia, which is very enjoyable on consoles, except for the fight sequences, but probably won't be any fun on the PC as it requires very responsive controls and a constant framerate).

That's what makes it even more annoying... its not THAT hard to make multiple UI's for different systems, but the one size fits all approach is sometimes heavy handed and makes for diminished gameplay. The Witcher's menu system is decent (not best ever by any means, but not bad) and would translate well over to a console. I also don't understand why its so hard to design something that would work well in all circumstance.
I can't help but think of knights of the old republic here, I thought the xbox controls were quite serviceable but when I briefly tried the PC version, I felt like I was playing a game where I was controlling an xbox owner and the objective of the game was to get him to play KOTOR. That was a major failure of design and frankly I'm very surprised that a company as classy as Bioware screwed it up so badly. Here's hoping they do a good job on the 360 version of Dragon Age.
Controls have been and always will be a major source of contention amongst PC & console gamers, there are some people who can't play an FPS without a keyboard & mouse and unless the game is well designed I know I have troubles and the less said about any laughable attempt to put an RTS on a console the better (endwar's voice control was the closest to a good system I've seen but sadly it was married to an incredibly dull game).
It works in reverse too, there's no way I could play Tomb Raider on PC, the controls just feel too clunky and as much as it shocked the hell out of me, I found GTA4 on console vastly better than I imagined simply because of analogue driving. I was planning to hold out for the PC version because of the keyboard & mouse thing but now I'm not sure if I could play it on PC. What I need is a keyboard with analogue arrow keys...
The one thing I'm really looking forward to is IL2 Sturmovik: Birds Of Prey just to see how they manage to squeeze a complex flight sim onto a controller. I'll probably pre-order it simply because I'm sick of seeing shit like ace combat 6 being described as a "flight simulator"
