Apparently, viciously going after people has become a fad after Russel Crowe did it. Now Christian Bale throws his own little tantrum;

Honestly, can't say I'm too surprised since I have a friend who had the same thing done to him by Jay Leno, and word is there are plenty of actors and celebrities who do it. It's still a very pathetic thing to listen to.
I would be acting pissy too if i always had people in my face. A lot of those tantrums are because those people have practically no privacy. I'm not apologizing for them but you do have to try and see where they could be coming from. Besides, they're human too.
Yeah, it was pretty amazing really. My Betsy Coates* senses are tingling; I can think of lots of stuff to do with this material. Mostly involving 'fuck', 'ass' and 'you're a nice guy!' Oh Christian, you make it so easy to be puerile.
(Alec Baldwin got this treatment)

In his defense, the guy kept walking in front of him and distracting, I could imagine that would take him out of whatever he was doing. I heard that he had already asked him to stop it before.
Of course, all we'll likely hear about is what Bale did and not what led up to it. I agree with JudasIscariot in that these guys always have people in their face, so it's easy to see why they might snap.
Apparently the guy he was yelling at was told/warned multiple times not to mess with the lights during live filming but kept doing it, and when he did it during some important scene Bale just snapped.
A lot of actors are dicks, but that doesn't detract from the quality of their onscreen work. Maybe being really emo and dickheadish is what it takes for great actors to portray characters so effectively on camera.
But like some people said already, we have no context for what happened, even if Bale did seem to be overreacting. Seriously, this goes on for over three minutes.
Either way, I still enjoy and respect Bale's acting.
After hearing it a couple of times, yeah, sounds like the lights guy for the scene was being an idiot.
for a second there i thought this was in reference to tug jobs.
I feel it was an overreaction to launch into a swearing tirade, although it isn't obvious from the clip I heard if Bale had spoken with the Assistant Director or someone, and told them to get in control of the set, especially during a take.
The lighting should have been sorted before "action", so perhaps the lighting guy isn't doing his job correctly, but it is the AD or whichever senior behind-the-camera staff is senior's job to make sure everything is in place and set before the cameras roll.
Not saying that I condone what Mr. Bale did but when some one gets paid millions of dollars to give the best performance is under a lot of pressure. Their next job can also depend upon how their last performance was. So I can understand him being a little miffed because of the distraction.
That said perhaps he overreacted while being frustrated. Course I also believe Heath Ledger overreacted by killing himself over the role of comic book character.

That was suicide? I thought he took painkillers to ease the torment he put himself through to play the role, accidentally took a little too many or mixed it with another medicine or alcohol or something, and died like that.
Pretty much what I understand as well. I believe the tabloid reports sensationalized it to make it seem like suicide and thus be a more 'meaty story', but the bottom line as far as I know is it was an accidental overdose.
I must of missed this, and google-news is not being helpful: Christian Bale goes for an interview/performance/dance-number and decides to swear a bit at someone who can't do something right. This spreads around the web and makes his mother cry.
Compared to what I hear daily at work, it's pretty weak, and If I was not told who it is, I would not even know. What's the deal here? Aside from an overuse of expletives?
from just simply listening to it I think it's obvious he went overboard.
But I can't imagine all the pressure, the focus, etc that it takes to be an actor. Especially if the person was making this same mistake AGAIN and AGAIN.
I think both parties messed up and should be apologizing to each other. The guy needs to also learn not to walk through/mess around as a scene is being shot.
Also, who doesn't snap from time to time? He just happens to be famous and so someone put it out there to embarrass him. I'm certainly glad no one has had recording equipment near me when I've let my temper get the best of me (and I'm glad I'm not famous because no one would care to listen to the recording, phew).
