It's been a while since I did some charity fundraising, but I've somehow managed to get a place in the National Lottery Run, which takes place in the Olympic Park on 21st July 2013. It's a 5 mile run, with the final 300m finishing inside the Olympic Stadium! :D

I've quit smoking (8 days since my last cigarette) and taken up running in an effort not to embarrass myself too much on the day, and figured it would be a good opportunity to raise some money for charity while I'm at it.

As some of you know, my daughter was treated at Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital when she was a baby, and as such are a charity very close to my heart.

If you can spare a few pennies, then please do visit my Just Giving page below. I've already paid all my entry fees, etc. myself, so any donations will go directly to Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital.

I'd also love to hear any tips and tricks people more experienced at running than myself have to help me with my training! And if anyone has a spare pair of UK size 10 trainers lying around ... ;)

74 days to go!
Remember to practice how to pace your breath, it's the most important part in running long distances.

Momo1991: A friend recently started a program called "couch to 5K". Apparently it is a downloadable app that paces you through getting in shape over 6-8 weeks in order to go literally from being a couch potato to be able to run a 5K.

Here's the link and good luck!

Well this is the app page...

Looks interesting. I'm using the Strava app, which does the job for me, but I'll definitely give this a try as well. My training is very sporadic at the moment, but I have managed to run 4 miles comfortably already. I've found a good 4.5 mile route, so I'm probably going to run that one regularly to try and get my times down.

Apparently you're only supposed to breathe in when pushing off your left foot to prevent developing a stitch, so that's what I've been trying to do so far and it appears to be fairly successful.
I've successfully completed 4.5 miles, so now the aim is to try and get my time down. I'm no longer feeling the adverse effects (sore legs, etc.) from my earlier runs, so it's all going pretty well so far.

69 days to go, and I've now gone 2 weeks without a cigarette! :D

Well, it's now been 2 months since I quit smoking and I've just run 5 miles in under 40 minutes for the first time! :)

Smoking a great big joint! Seriously, well done with quitting smoking and all the best with the run. It's going to be pretty warm (for the UK), so keep yourself hydrated.
Leaving in 10 mins! :DDDDDDDDDDDDDD
Great for you! =D Hope all went well nmillar and you had fun. Well, as much fun as sweating in a mob can get! ;-D
