Afternoon GoGlodytes

So it appear that my Diablo 2 expansion disc is "fooked" to use the technical term (i dropped it then ran over it with the chair by accident)

I know I can add the CD keys to my Blizzard account but is there any drawback to doing this?
This question / problem has been solved by Maighstirimage
Nothing I can think of.

Except having the license tied to your account? No.

That is, you're not forced to use your account beyond the initial download (there's no online check at install or for singleplayer - and the CD will still work with the old key), but the game license cannot be revoked from the account (possibly by Blizzard), and though you get a new key it's the same license, so you're no longer allowed to sell the game.

That is, it's very much like registering your retail copy of The Witcher 1 or 2 at GOG.

No drawback AFAIK.
Since we are on the subject I'm always game for bout of D2 party play but I don't trust most of the people online, thus I turn to you fine folks. Problem is with the crash of my HD I have to totally start all my characters over. :P
thank you all for your responses, I only play SP in D2 so im not worried about accounts etc, but it saves me getting a new disc, i know they are dirt cheap these days but im a lazy and impatient old bastard.

Marked Maighstir as the answer as his was more full, but i do appreciate everyone's time.

not entirely true, there is a tool that can edit characters and their progress in the game. You could use it to remake your character, of course you will need to get equipment, i dont recall if the tool can be used to generate gear.

Thanks but I actually don't mind. I had one sorceress I'm going to miss but I have NOTHING else to do so I'm good. :D Thank god it's not D3 where we have to go online and actually purchase equipment, errrr prime equipment.

Do be aware that you'll likely need to use your new key to install the downloaded edition - they switched to another format somewhere along the way, so that all Battle.net games use the same format (including downloaded editions of games from before the switch). Save the new key in a text file or whatnot so you can install the game while offline or after you forget the credentials for the Battle.net account.

D2 is the only game I ever tried in multiplayer. It was back when D2 first came out, and the experience wasn't pleasant, to say the least. Still, I might be willing to give it another try. Can't be worse than it was back then. :S

My HD crashed (yeah everyone knows) and I just got around to reinstalling it this morning at which point I realized it's been six or seven months since I played it and man...I am having a blast. I'll work up a SP character and then hit this forum to see if anyone wants to party with me. :D

The last time I played was when the last patch came out. So it's been quite some time. I really need to revive my necro again.

As for joining the party, are you playing on the B.net or over TCP/IP?

B.net but I'm new to MP so I'm open to suggestions. I always avoided MP until I came here and realized there are all sorts of great people who enjoy the games like I do, as games and good fun, so I'm a D2 vet but still learning.

You probably still have more experience than me. I only played about 20 hours, 12 or 13 years ago.
