Ages ago, I bought "Evil Genius" and loved the vibe and feel of it. Unfortunately, even on the easiest setting it was so hard that it was unplayable. Not fun, just work.
I also enjoyed a game in which you play the devil, underground, and fight/kill Tolkien-type heroes who come down to plunder your stuff. Can't remember the title to that one, but it was very buggy and flawed in game balance. It crashed all the time.
Divine Divinity has a good feel to it like these games. I like this type of POV. Can anyone suggest the Gog games that will be most similar in gameplay mechanics to Divine Divinity, regardless of theme? Thank you.

Can't help you in general, but the games you're thinking of here are Dungeon Keeper 1+2.

Not answering what you're asking, but the game you can't remember may be Dungeon Keeper. As for games in GOG that are that style, I have no clue since I haven't played it, but if it's just an RPG, what about the Fallouts, or Sacred ( I don't know if it's an action RPG or turn based).
ON GOG:
Very Similar
Beyond Divinity (sequel, IMO not as good)
Sacred Gold (very similar Diablo II-style action/RPG game)
Somewhat Similar
Vampire:The Masquerade Redemption (party based action/RPG, somewhat similar)
Lionheart (action/RPG, more RPG than DD, personally I hate it)
All are 3/4 overhead, too.

Perhaps you are talking about Dungeon Keeper or Overlord?
Perhaps the most obvious first choice would be Sacred - the game is referenced within Divine Divinity's description on GOG.
Sacrifice is a bit of a blend of the game styles you've mentioned above, but it is widely regarded as fairly difficult, so you may want to steer clear if you got too frustrated with Evil Genius.
For something different, a lot slower, but with a hint of the tactical and RPG elements you've mentioned, you could also try a strategy game like The Guild.
Albeit not on GOG, I second the Dungeon Keeper games. Beyond Divinity is a pretty obvious choice if you're looking for more like Divine.
Okay, now I'm confused. Either bearcat33 is the worst troll ever, or he's the best he is at what he does and what he does is quite trollish. This thread actually sounds like a legit question and for the first time I can recall, it doesn't end with him looking like a complete ass.
Well played.
