The ABC's really good at looking for talent... and killing it.
They should shut down Radio 1... i tuned in on the web a few weeks back.. i didn't remember it being that terrible.. it's like the Sun in radio form. Particularly the horrendous Newsbeat.
It does seem that everyone is queueing up to take free hits on the BBC... probably because they know the conservatives are going to neuter it.
It's a shame... their web presence may be big, but it's almost all awesome. If the others want to compete they should try making something half as good.
The problem is that the BBC is stuck between a rock and a hard place. If they don't make populist programmes then everyone complains about paying license fees for stuff no-one watches. If they make populist programmes people complain about that.
Personally I think they need to be given GUARANTEED funding for the next 50-100 years, and then be told to forget about viewing figures and make something good.
Plus they should sell licenses to use the iplayer internationally... i know a load of ex-pats who'd be happy to pay to get some decent TV.

I stopped listening to radio1 when they shafted all their best DJ's and got in 8year-old ADHD, Tourette's Syndrome "DJ's" to replace them. Very bad move. IIRC they lost over 8million listeners that week. funnily enough - those same DJ's appeared on Radio2 a while later, and since then, Radio2 has had the best listener figures....

Seconded - I'm in the US for three months at the moment, and the lack of decent TV is shocking, I'd gladly pay $20 a month or so for access to the i-player (Even though I've already paid my TV licence for this year!). Unfortunately there's probably all sorts of licensing issues so that it'll never happen.
Radio 1 and Radio 2 daytime will never be cut, simply because they bring in 9 million + listeners each. If they were cut however, it'd probably save commercial radio! I should imagine a national commercial station, run properly on 97-99FM, would do just as well as Radio 1 is at the moment. So the argument that the BBC is stifling competition, and therefore services should be cut, just doesn't stand up.
Argh, just shut down Radio Scotland. I don't know anyone who listens to it. Although I've never really listened to 6 Music (and don't anyone who does either) it is very sad for those enjoy the station. I'd feel the same if Radio 4 or 7 was cut off.
