Andy_Panthro: I don't think I'd have a problem with a series continuation or a remake of any of my old all time favourite games, provided it was done properly.
Trouble is, you can never count on that.
Look at UFO: Enemy Unknown, how many times have people made similar games? and how many are fondly remembered?
And on a similar note: Fallout 3.

I fear for System Shock 3......it seems that 3 is the cursed number for any series....
Well, if you consider BG:Dark Alliance as the actual third in the series, then that worry is gone. :)

I'm with you there, although it usually aint in the number exactly, just depends on how quick they decide to rest upon their laurels (and hardys, if they have em), instead of trying to produce a quality piece of software.
One thing I'd definately agree has a numerical problem is the "3" in "3D", since a whole heap of problems arose when everything had to be 3D, cos its the future, and progress, an all.
Turned my stomach all that, being as I am a lover of fine artwork. The beginnings of 3D were damned ugly, and useful only in certain genres (most notably space shooters).

AAggh! You have mentioned The Game That Shall Not Be Mentioned By Name! Blasphemy!

Coelocanth: You could take a look at Gamasutra's article. I had a better one in mind, but I'm not sure if I can find it. I'll post a link if I do.

I've always wanted to design a game but I would suck at it because I can't code and sitting over someone telling them what to do kind of jibes with my style. Oh well.....guess I won't make that great game ...

Heh, I found the site I was thinking about originally. Give it a look anyway:
Sloperama.

Still, I wouldn't be completely adverse to handing over the design to someone else though :-).
Stop looking at me like that!
How about this ?

Zeewolf: There's too much to play and too little time to bother with games again and again and again.

I find this an amusing statement given the place where it was posted.
Why? I've bought one game that I've played before here (which was in a two for the price of one pack anyway). I'm mainly here for the stuff I HAVEN'T played before.
Yes, I might decide to buy something I've played before, in the future. There are some games that are very special to me, and that I would like to get again - and there are some games I pirated back in the nineties, which I would like to finally be able to pay for. But those are the exceptions.
I think that the Baldur's Gate series is finished with the Throne of Bhaal expansion, and I surely hope that no one will make a third chapter only to sell some (many) copies, maybe creating even a bad game that would ruin the entire saga.
But if Atari decides to do so, I only wish that Obsidian will make it, because they make (together with BioWare) the classic BGs, and they're maybe the only ones that can make a good sequel.
I would say even BioWare itself, that is the true maker of the saga (Black Isle helped them, but the main work was done by the Canadians), but I would hate to see one my favourite series in a multi-platform developed, that would probably destroy every chances of making a good game.
