kebsis: I tried the Space Siege demo. They replaced picking up items with picking up 'power' or something that you can cash in at particular places for upgrades. I didn't like it very much.

you actually pick up 'spare parts/scrap metal' for making items in strategically placed vending machines.
they effecdtively did away with loot entirely in the game in favour of this 'feature'
'power' or 'scrap' the game is still crap.
hey that rhymes! XD
I really liked "The Fall", and its Predecessor "Soldiers of Anarchy". Both are post apocalyptic, but more like Tactic Games with some RPG Elements.

Well there is also Metalheart Replicants' Rampage. But the game is not all that good....
And there is always Septerra Core....

Cops 2170: The Power of Law
(Ignore Gamespot rattings...)
More TBS then RPG, but the elements of RPG are there in full.
Cops 2170 reminds me of Syndicate Wars. The few screenshots i looked at at least.

BloodDoll: Space Siege just came out not that long ago. It's like Dungeon Siege but sci-fi. I have no idea if it's any good or not.

custardcream: space siege is not very good at all.
its more action game than rpg. infact having rpg even mentioned in the same direction as the box causes rpg'ers globally to convulse.

I never played it, I just knew someone who worked on it, so it came to mind, and I thought I'd mention it.

falselogic: What you're thinking of might be Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura made by Troika games, the same guys who did the original Fallout. If you can find the latest patch for it it might be for you. Lionheart: Legacy of the Crusader is also similar to that, an alternative version of our world during the crusades except magic is real. You might want to try System Shock 1 and 2 as well, their great

Yes, Arcanum is what I was thinking of. I'm a little scared of trying it though. I've heard it was loaded with bugs and annoying features, and I'm pretty intolerant of that. I don't like to have to fight with poorly designed interfaces and bugs to enjoy a game.
Is it as bad with that stuff as I've read?
The interface can be a little clunky, but it's fully usable.
Grab 'Drog Black Tooth's' unofficial patch: http://www.rpgcodex.net/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=23720. It will fix a lot of stuff.
Yeah, pretty much every game by Troika is a buggy mess, but once you get it patched up, their games are great. Arcanum is definitely worth trying. It has its problems but I liked it a lot.

Thanks for that. Now it's just a matter of whether I should wait for GoG to get it, or go and get it immediately...
If you have anything else to play, you could wait for GOG to get it, so you can get it cheap and patched up and support GOG..but if you really don't know what to do with your time, just get it now.
Yeah, I got other games to keep me busy. I like supporting gog too, cause I think it's a cool service, so I'll just wait and see if they can get it. I guess if they got all the fallouts they should be able to get Arcanum too, right?
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl.
haven't played Clear Sky yet, but the original with its very rich abundance of mods is a must.

No ideia :(
Too bad the sequel never made it out of russia. We need more tactical TBS RPGs if you ask em (Aka, X-COM, the above games, Jagged Alliance, etc)
