Is there any people here following this series ? There are lots of references to other mangas/animes. There are some allusions that I easily figured out (such as Bleach, Naruto, Eyeshield 21, Prince of Tennis, Death note etc), and probably a lot more that I didn't catch or understand.

What are the other references that you found out ?

Most overrated anime ever. Why do I say this? Because it's rated #1 on myanimelist.net

I watched it, couldn't get into it. Most of the humor went right past me.

Well I understood the more obvious ones, but I avoid popular anime like Naruto, bleach, dragon ball, the old ruroni kenshin (the OVA was amazing), and other stuff like that. Although the jokes I got were pretty funny, like how the characters changed in the new season. And the cross shaped scar on the main characters face. But some of the humor is a bit too copy-cat. It almost outright references things Family Guy style, and I'm not a fan of that.

I have watched 25 episodes so far. I know that 207 was released not too long ago. So far, I'm enjoying it, but to be honest, I hope there is more than just a succession of funny episodes without real scenario.

It's alright but I'm with ovoon on this one. I don't think I'll watch Gintama to the end or at least I'll take my time but I don't find it very funny, even with the references (at least the ones I catch). Usually I go to other animes for a laugh such as GTO, One Piece, and Seitokai Yakuindomo for examples.

I find comedies are great when interspersed with a few bits of seriousness such as School Rumble (the manga) and GTO (manga more so than the anime). Too much comedy and it gets boring after a while.
