I managed to make a back up copy of my Final Fantasy X game, put it on a USB flash drive and play it on my ps2! I am amazed and very happy.

Just needed a place to share it with.

It is very possible. It's a complicated process where you have to go through a lot of steps in order to get it all to work. Now my ps2 has a modchip which allows me to run back up dvd's, ntsc, etc. Basically you need to have a way to install files to your memory card to mod your ps2 that way. Apparantly you can even connect the ps2 to the computer to play backups directly from the computer. I am really happy. Now my ps2 will last a lot longer when I don't have to use the laser.

while your laser is safe now but its not a 100% thing the ps2 will last longer , its known fact that modchips in ps2 tend to heat the system more and cause burnout of the capacitors etc in the long run
Umm, isn't mod chip related escapades something which Mr. Gog doesn't want us talking about on the forum?
Have you considered emulation? There are some sweet graphical options available that make it superior to playing on your PS2!

Shhh, I think the mods are sleeping.

Hmm, would a topic about chipping the mods be more appropriate...

Side note, the only FF game that I ever completed. (The main story, at least)

Yeah, I've read how Sony booby trapped the PS2's custom DVD drive to die an early death if such a thing is installed. Such things made sense at one point but parts are getting ever rarer and there are now other alternatives.

100% compatibility on real hardware is nice. The ability to run ~80% of game from harddrive is also pretty sweet and the picture looks reasonable with certain inexpensive Chinese upscalers/ deinterlacers.

A modchip is not something illegal. It's what the user does with it that can make the user illegal. It's similar to GOG's policy. You own the game and you can install and make as many back ups. You own a modchip and you own the game and make as many back ups as you like. The thing is, it can work on unmodded ps2's if you have a memory card with the mod on it. However to get the mod on the memory card first is where the issue lies unless you have friends/family/relatives. About the heating problem, I have not had any issues yet. If I do I have a back up ps2.

So I basically I can copy a GOG game put in a USB drive as a back up so I do not have to download the game I want from the internet? Cool :)

Provided of course I don't use for infingment purposes which I will not for 2 reasons:

1: I am pretty sure its already been done but other pirates.

2: Why would I want to.

Exactly. You can back up your games from GOG. They even advertise with it.
