It would be nice if there was an additional info tab for games that could tell us more info.
This is mostly due to the age and tame span many were released.
Few good things could come from this if we knew the info because some games were:
Software Rendered
Hardware Rendered (3DFX (Glide) / Open GL/ Early Direct X) - Good to know if we need a wrapper
Midi or CD Based Music
Joystick or Mouse and Keyboard
Currently known patches for the game with links
This would let us know what we may need to have downloaded and installed on our system to play some games.
Now, I'm going to use MDK as an example.
When it was released 3D accelerator cards were just on the market.
Rendition Verte had been out for ~2 years, and with the 3DFX VooDoo 1 was out for ~1 year. ( VooDoo 2 was on the way)
As for MDK it was released without support for DirectX or Glide (3DFX), they added 2 patches to support both (Glide) and DirectX.

Some games never had a DirectX patch and we would need a wrapper to play em.

I fully agree, I really wish they'd have more information, mainly so I don't have to go Wikipedia diving to get all my information before purchase.
From what I've been able to tell, though, all games (or, at least, Freespace 2) were released here with all patches already in them, so...
