Don't let the simplistic drawing deceive you. Order of the Stick is an amazing D&D comic that starts silly and suddenly turns into a deep story. And the artwork gets better too.

I think my favourite fantasy art of all time is from Vagrant Story. I can't find much in widescreen, but here's one good example;
