I have to really hope that 3D Realms will put their other games onto GOG.com, because buy3drealms.com is a terrible archaic site, that feels like going into a back alley to buy games.
I mean they've got no class and get this, you have to purchase download insurance, what the hell is that crap.
==============
Product Name Remove Quantity Price
Raptor
$5.99 USD
Extended Download Service $1.99 USD
Coupon Code: Update

Item Total : $7.98 USD

And here is the explanation, they tout it like it is a bonus feature, bah!
========================
Because Not Everything Goes As It Should.
Think of this as your digital safety net for those unexpected occurrences - like your hard drive frying or a virus infection. EDS means that with the purchase of your digital product, we'll keep a copy of your file for ONE FULL YEAR. You'll gain peace of mind knowing that we have your program stored and ready for you to download again [for FREE] at your convenience once your computer is up and running again.
A little extra insurance on your order to keep your products safe? Why not!

===================================
Please get 3D Realms to bring their wonderful back catalog to GOG.com, because I want those games, but I don't want to get an STD from shopping there.
Cheers,
Mikail

That is idiotic.
And I agree that their website looks like it was scrambled together like a bad omelet. I'm not even going to trust the security of their bank transfer service. Apparently 3D Realms have about as many talented website designers as they have game programmers.
But paying EXTRA for the opportunity to redownload my purchase, and even then it's only for one year? Kiss my shiny metal ....

3dr outsouced the store to digital river the previous store was hosted by yahoo. Yahoo allowed unlimited downloads while The new host limits you time to download after buying. also the only coped over the old yahoo site and added entries for the games ported to download format. basically 3dr is down to it's publishing and store staff witch seems to be one guy.

Yes, things do look a little desperate for 3D Realms at the moment and to be honest I wouldn't touch that store with a barge pole.
The terms of purchase just aren't good enough for me to spend my money there, besides, it would undermine all the support I have given to GOG.com.
Guess I will just have to hope for those games to make it over here.
Love the responses gents, haha good stuff :D
And yes, I've given my support to GOG and that means something, so maybe Steam has a GOG game for cheaper, but come on, GOG is more important at the end of the day.
Thankfully there is no temptation with this 3D Realms site, its so seedy.
Well I deal with gog and steam and impulse (maybe) and greenhouse games (maybe) ... direct2drive (unlikley), buying directly from gametap (very unlikely) 3drealms (never). I think awhile back EA had (and maybe they still have) a store with this insurance BS. Thats obnoxious plus why would I trust 3drealm ... sheesh.

Yeah, and you can only download your game for a year -- you have to pay $5 for an extra five years, or something like that. It's...hilarious. Plus, in the case of The Sims 3 anyway, there's DRM on the digital version vs. none really on the physical. I don't know why anyone would buy digital vs. physical under those circumstances.

3dr no longer ships physical media except for the discs burned by DR for them. the games are drm free. the thing keeping them off GOG.com is the legal issues with some of the games if we wait a while maybe Apogee software ltd will give more games to Apogee software llc to put on gog.com. currently only the 5 here are what the new apogee has rights to sell.

The EA Store has similar restrictions; downloads are only available for one year, but for another $6 you can extend your access by five years. Of course, none of this applies if you buy EA titles through Steam or Direct2Drive instead.

that's how many game developer digital distribution websites go, Atari, I think Konami as well..
Oh for crying out loud...
"You'll gain peace of mind knowing that we have your program stored and ready for you to download again [for FREE] at your convenience once your computer is up and running again."
So if you pay, you can download it again for free? Do you think I'm stupid?
heh. did anyone expect anything else from DNF creators?
digital river are crap in my experience.
I can't find words to describe how that crappy site sucks. I just can't.
Keeping game for ONE FULL YEAR is just amazing service, lol.
