Killed OR sterilized.
Anyway, I'm baffled by this case. IANAL, but you ARE allowed to hold trespassers until proper authorities arrive to do a formal arrest. Trespassing is illegal. After they ignore a warning to leave, you are within your right to "defend" yourself at that point.
Considering the ****ing mess these trespassers have been leaving on his property for about 10 years, and the amount of MONEY he's had to waste dealing with it (sensors, FAUCETS on his water tanks so they can steal his water without destroying the tank), plus the fact that he really has no idea when he confronts them whether or not they're armed or drugged up or whatever (some illegals DO get drugged up for the parts of the trip where they need to keep moving, read the article) I'm amazed he shows enough restraint to merely detain them until the authorities arrive.
The only loss to the illegals is that they're detained, deported and possibly fined, I dunno what happens to them. I fail to see how facing the consequences for illegal action constitutes a violation of ones civil rights. The best case they have is that he treated them cruelly, but it would have to be pretty freaking blatant and vicious before I gave a damn.
Tell me honestly: you have had detained a robber at gunpoint within your own home and your dog started growling at him. Wouldn't YOU make a joke that your dog is hungry? Seems like an obvious joke to me. No one is hurt by that.

This baffles me.

Blame it on the lawyers. There was a time when civil rights were strictly adhered to as only applied to legal citizens, guaranteed by the 13th and 14th amendments. At some point, civil rights apparently became confused with human rights and some people started to believe that the rights we all have as citizens of the United States are rights that everyone is entitled to. The only thing that everyone is actually entitled to, regardless of citizenship, is equal protection under the law, but that should not give illegal immigrants the same civil rights guarantees that citizens have (personal opinion, not a legal fact).
well there are some conventions in play that must also be respected.

"Get out illegal immigrant!"
Actually "Foreigners out!". And in the common politicised meaning of the words combined the term refers to all of them regardless whether they have legal or not legal status. (Said otherwise it's strongly associated with [far] right wing slogans, in Germany.)
I'd be careful using those words unless that's the association you wanted.

for me, I'm not so upset about immigration, so much as I am the attitude illegal immigrants seem to take. they leave their country because they don't have much of a future ahead of them there, and come here, and litter, commit the same crimes they had commited in Mexico (if they are the type that commits crimes), and for the most part our legal system can't do anything about it...
down here in Arizona, we have Sheriff Joe Arpaio, and he's kind of like a peanut butter jelly sandwich, but instead of jelly it's arsenic.
He has made a lot of strides in trying to deal with illegal immigrants, the ACLU is trying shut him down for creating a hotline people can call to report suspected illegal immigrants.
But at the same time, he's really harsh on small crimes, he's invented a jail called "tent city" where the inmates spend the majority of their time out in the Arizona sun, which in the summer could result in the death of many inmates.. Some of the things he does, I really like, but somethings I disapprove of greatly...
anyway, my main point is, if you go to a new country, don't make an ass of yourself and don't assume things either. Try to learn at least a little bit about the culture, society, and laws before going, some of the language too!
I feel very sorry for American's who don't speak English, because for most states, it's listed in their constitution that the official language of that state is English. That's the way it is for Arizona.

Well I did put illegal before that .....thus hoping to avoid extremist right-wing connotations. I do understand where you are coming from though! Thanks for the heads up!
I trust the man will win in the end.
