In and +1!

One of the more annoying and ridiculous examples of state- and commerce based censorship is Youtube in Germany. The GEMA is stubborn in their demands, Youtube is unwilling to pay their exorbitant fees (and is doing it's best to make GEMA look bad, not that GEMA needs any help in that respect) and the effect is, that at least half of the videos on Youtube are blocked in Germany.

Another more funny example is the fact that several of Michelangelos work were overpainted with pants (after his death), because you can't have people being resurrected (or crucified) in the nude! I mean, depicting people like god created them is obviously an offense to god!
"The Expurgation of Maniac Mansion" by Douglas Crockford, a memoir about the changes needed to be made to Maniac Mansion to get in on the NES.

I'm in! Thank you for the opportunity, +1.
Thanks Telika for this giveway, I'm in and +1.

Here's a recent example of rather ridiculous censorship, in which a social network forbids the publication of portraits containing nudity:

Stooner: Just noticed you missed the chance to put some swearing in the thread's title... :/
avatar
Telika: I've put "giveaway". It's become a dirty word, lately.

(And thus, making this thread, I was totally aware of that it'll be filtered out by people who have installed a script to that effect. I savour the irony.)
yeah, "giveaway" is the new porn...

But, I think it would be cool to also trigger the (in)famous GOG censor on a giveaway thread about censoring...
I remember reading (possibly in a Richard Dawkins book, not sure) an anecdotal story about an American radio station that aired an altered version of John Lennon's Imagine; instead of saying "and no religion too", the censored version said "and one religion too".

Wow, that's just...wow. I'd rather someone burn a John Lennon album than change it to that...
There was an old TV-edit of Tremors that had all of the cussing replaced with far tamer, "aw shucks"-style dialogue... but for once, it actually made the movie more entertaining. One of the running gags had the characters apologizing for cussing in the presence of ladies, and in the censored version, this resulted in great lines like "Pardon my French, but... shoot!"

Not to mention that after killing the monster in his basement, Burt got the epic censored line "Broke into the wrong gal-darn rec room, didn't you you big jerk?!"
Turkish government had banned YouTube, and it had been only accessible thru VPN's, proxies or custom DNS servers for 3 years, because 1 single video was insulting Atatürk. I mean I'm an extreme Kemalist and I love Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and everything he did but banning the whole network for 1 video? come on?!

Thanks Telika btw :D

On I Love Lucy when Lucy was pregnant they couldn't say the word 'pregnant' and to say she was "expecting."
I always thought it was pretty hilarious that they blur middle fingers on american media, like on the Colbert Report or here:

Also how they bleep the "god" out of "goddamnit" ^^
I've got the a pefect one.

In the song "Land of the Rising Sun" by Spacekats, the second verse starts...

Bikini lines and bedroom toys,
Some for the girls, some for the boys.
Weather's so hot, feelin' so bold,
Won't be long, 'fore I lose the mold...
For the Playstation 2 version of the 4-panel dance game In The Groove, that second verse was censored to...

Weather's so hot, feelin' so bold,
Some for the girls, some for the boys.
Weather's so hot, feelin' so bold,
Won't be long, 'fore I lose the mold...
Late edit: And just in case I need to make it clear, I'm in.

In 2007 the satirical weekly magazine "el Jueves" was removed from all the kiosks by order of the Kings of Spain, because they were offended by the cover.

And here's the cover, in which you can see the Prince making love to his wife. You may or may not be offened by it:

Please count me in and thanks for the giveaway Telika.
A couple of years ago the Ombudsman for Children in Poland wanted to ban children's television series Teletubbies from public television because in her opinion it had gay subtext and promoted homosexuality. For example one of the male characters, Tinky Winky, carried a handbag :D

I'm in of course:) Thanks!
