It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

I just migrated to Windows 10 and I get the above message when I click on a game Windows installer in the GOG Dowload Links section. It just takes me to the Windows Store etc, and won't allow me to simply download the game install files. Is there a workaround other than Galaxy which I don't want to use?

Under the GOG Galaxy download/install button there's "Download Offline Backup Game Installers". Are these current - ie the same as the installer in the GOG Download Links?

They are largely the same. Maybe a few games aren't as up-to-date on the stand alone installers. But not a huge amount.

Well that's a start. Is my "new app" problem common? I Googled it and there are issues out there but no hits on GOG downloaders specifically. If I'm an outler I probably need to troubleshoot my W10...

Have you tried reinstalling GOGDownloader?

You did have GOGDownloader installed for that error to occur, right? Are you using Adalia Fundamentals? That replaces some links with GOGDownloader links and perhaps that's where the problem is coming from...

What browser are you using?

The GOG Downloader Links use a special URI and your browser seems not to be recognising it (or at least not associating it with the Downloader)

If your at all familiar with the Registry you could check and see that the Downloader is correctly registered to handle the URI links.
You can use the Downloader that the good Paladin linked (I use it, works fine), or also just a regular browser download. There is no need to install Galaxy if you do not want to.

Once Downloader is installed, it will open automagically maybe five seconds after you click the Downloader link for the game in question.

This is a really good question, rereading the OP it's not actually clear he is using the Downloader in the first place, which would be a logical reason why the downloads aren't working with it.

Yes.
The old GOG downloader isn't really officially supported anymore, just so you know. GOG staff have monkeyed around with things a few times to get it (mostly) working again when people occasionally complain that it's broken, but when (not if) a problem occurs which would take way more time to fix than they deem worth it, it'll be dead for real.
Doh! I had completely forgotten about the downloader it had been so long since I had it installed it in W7 - user error! Do not pass GO do not collect $200!

I realized my error right after I turned in this evening and got up to DL it and read all the forman replies haha!

Thanks all...
