Cycling regularly worked well for me, when I rode five days a week to work (about 5 miles distance) and back I lost quite some weight and - what's even more important - felt much healthier after some time.

It's also important to reduce temptation, don't keep snacks around you, you only need a few seconds of weakness to devour them. You don't need to eat in stress situations, I made the experience that eating makes you feel better for a few minutes but reduces your performance for many hours.
Good luck!

As a former +95kger who is now hovering around 70-75kgs, the old addage of "80% diet, 20% exercise" really holds true for me.
Fad diets are probably only going to temporarily help, the best solution is finding healthy food you like eating (or learning to like healthier foods? :D), and eat just those regularly, and the other stuff less regularly. And if you can figure out some form of exercise you enjoy (for me it was jogging/hiking), all the better!
Good on you to post it here and get extra motivation.

My advice would be (if you want this done easy and quick) to take a free month and go walk a long distance trail, you'll come out a new person both physically and mentally. If you can't, I'd recommend yoga above any other exercise, you'll build up strength and flexibility which will help you a ton with other routines.

Good luck mate!
Good concept . i am in and i will read all entires too
Interesting. This seems like the opposite of incentive to me - lose weight, giveaway money!

Kudos to you for trying - I could stand to lose 10kg. I look forward to reading the updates.

Hence the giveaway :)

micktiegs_8: what's your intended method?
Changing diet is the first thing I am tackling. I will add in home exercise at some later point.

I've taken a slightly different route as I don't think that would work out well. I started taking a small box of air-popped popcorn to work which is easy to get to (so I'm less likely to go for something else) and very quick to make, so it's unlikely I'll be without it.

This has stopped me from getting crisps/flapjack to eat in the afternoon.

These giveaway mechanics work even if "not wanting to give away money" was the incentive.

The faster you lose weight, the less times you set a new threshold, so the less times you have to give away money :)
You can do this, and don't get discouraged even if you have slight gains at some point,I'm on a diet too!

Also don't starve yourself,it's unhealthy,good luck!
Well done, xyem!
Diet is a tricky beast, and changing it is a giant step forward. I have never really had true problems with my weight, but there has been a time when I ate a bit too much junk food (ESPECIALLY crisps), and a nice ring of fat show up.

Now I still eat like a pack of wolves, yet only things I cook by myself so I can annihilate animal fat and dose the ingredients as I see fit. I'm almost in perfect shape, I should only work more on endurance and strenght.
Usually, it is a good plate of pasta (I can cook it in gazillions of ways, so I never get tired of it) at lunch to provide energy to burn during the day and white meat or fish at dinner, both accompanied by abundant veggies and fruits as dessert. I eat them all: from salad to eggplants, legumes for proteins (some evenings I substitute them to meat or fish), and every fruit in existence, better if in a fruit salad drowned in orange juice.
I'm in and.. good luck! XD
Btw, I should check my weight too and re-start doing some sport.. damn laziness and cold weather.

Hmmm... interesting giveaway. I myself too hv been gaining too much weight 4 my own liking & i'm also in the process of trying 2 cut some. Not sure if i'm 1 2 be in but just like 2 encourage u 2 do 15min intensive workout @ least 2 times per week consistently & watch our daily calorie intake.

Can't really give much advice as so far they dun seem 2 hv much effects 4 me but every1's body reacts differently & your mileage may vary. Anyway, all the best 2 u (& myself, lol) on ur lose wieght journey. :)

P.S: If my advice somehow helped & i managed 2 be picked then perhaps i can consider it as my 'reward', haha. ;p

Fair enough - I hadn't seen it that way! Good luck!
In a nutshell:

* Build muscles, they'll help you burn fat
* Eat healthy, drink less alcohol or avoid altogether, avoid all extra sugar (you can take all you need from fruits) but allow yourself a sweet snack once a week, educate yourself on what to eat and why (learn about proteins, carbs, antioxidants, good fat Ω3/Ω6 etc)
* Exercise daily (cardio every day, weight training three times a week for example Mon-Wed-Fri) but before you start exercising it is wise to do a check-up especially if you haven't exercised before (or sometime has passed since the last time)
* Don't give up if you don't see immediate results, cause it will take a while -- don't lose your motivation.

Disclaimer: I'm not a professional trainer, i just spent a lot of time in gyms and nowadays i work out at home/outdoors as i enjoy it more that way and don't have any problems staying motivated, plus it works for me.

Thank you for the giveaway, not in. :)
Ugh, I need to shed some pounds too. For a while, after I had lost weight during/after a divorce, it seemed I couldn't gain weight, like I was immune. But breads and pasta got me and now I'm heavier from where I started. Usually my past weight losses (some intentional, some incidental) are from eating only when hungry (and doesn't food taste better then?? *smiles*) and deliberately and of course some exercises, like climbing up hills or even working in the yard, can really kick start the metabolism. I wish I was a better cook as far as taste appeal. Too many failed efforts, and it's tempting to get an unhealthy treat to make up for it.
