Hi!

Today "Wolfenstein 3D" was unbanned in Germany (aka "Beschlagnahmung aufgehoben"), NS-Symbolism is no part of the banning anymore. This is a great news, because this banning was thought to be never lifted a few years ago.

There is still a ban active for the console version, but that one was because of it's violence, it will fall in no time now, the de-indexing will be the next step, so in a few months (hopefully weeks...) GOG will be allowed to sell the game to us germans again.

Furthermore the "Doom 3 - Resurrection of Evil" Data was de-indexed, so NOW there is another chance for an uncensored version of "Doom 3+Data" here, as the BFG Version was censored to avoid being indexed as the old "Resurrection of Evil".

Hopefully in the next months Bethesda will free "Return to Castle Wolfenstein" and "Doom 2 Uncut" as well, all those titles will be unproblematic today.

I am interested in old, Doom 3 + Ressurection of Evil package, myself. That is the sole reason i avoided getting the BFG edition. Right after DRM, censorship is my No1 deal-breaker.

But i have bad news for you. GOG was reduced to a woke joke of its former self. Don't hold your breath. It suddenly took a turn pro-censor and "correctness"; silently and stealthily, at that. Now, they even censor GWENT! And they turn down games without censorship, that their developers/publishers bothered to reach them for partnership, like, THRICE (Agony).

Curation, or canceration of GOG, more appropriately, most probably won't grab the chance. Even the acronym, Good Old Games, isn't in effect anymore. New, shiny and degraded games, instead of good, old, solid and fanservicing ones...

Are Quake 2 and 3 still unavailable for german users here? If so, GOG should look into fixing that.

Quake 2 is, Quake 3 is still on the German index.

Why the heck Quake 2 & 3 were banned? There's nothing nazi-related in this games.

lots of violent games used to be "banned" in the 90s and early 2000s in germany, they got put on the index which meant you weren't allowed to advertise em, could still sell em from under the counter to people over the age of 18.
in recent years next to no games are put on the index anymore :)

Yes, indexed is different from "confiscated" (beschlagnahmt), like Wolfenstein was. Games with nazi symbols used to be banned completely, which means it was not allowed to sell them (it is not illegal to buy or own such a game, and private citizens are allowed to bring them into Germany if they were bought elsewhere for themselves). Indexed games, on the other hand, could be bought by persons over 18, but they could not be advertised. As it is too much of a hassle to make sure the person buying them is 18 or older, stores like gog or steam instead chose to not sell them at all in Germany.

Sometimes it is possible to use a proxy server to buy indexed games, for example in the humble store.

Good news for all germans to be sure. +1 for the wonderful news. :)
"Wolfenstein 3D" was completely unbanned and de-indexed now, "Spear of Destiny" was de-indexed too.

Both should be available to purchase for germans for the first time in more than 25 years...

"Doom 2 - International Version" should be (hopefully) de-indexed at the end of November, it was only indexed because of the bonus levels (SS soldiers, Swastikas).

Very good day for retro-gaming in germany. :)

Yes, GOG and Bethesda, please remove that region lock ASAP.
