My old physical copy of Stars! would disagree. As a 16-bit game, it won't run at all under any 64-bit OS out of the box, without a fair amount of tweaking. Which is why I still have one old laptop with XP loaded.
I downgraded back to windows 7 after a month of windows 10 experience.

have you tried running it under linux (wine)? That should still work.

Regals: Windows 10 is a must for gaming...
There is some annoying things you just get use to and work arounds for other things with registry edits.

Just like all windows OS's you can regedit the thing.

More casual users of system don't like it as much cause less is "visible" for configuration.

omega64: In what way is it a "must for gaming"?
DX12?
Yes I played a little bit of Battlefield 1 on Windows 10 with DirectX 12 and it is a absolutely fun and very good looking video game graphically.

I can't wait to see what Mass Effect Andromeda looks like with DirectX 12.
Definitely keep 10. You can and probably should use Linux for other stuff you might want to do (e.g. Python programming), but there's no reason to get rid of basically free Windows. Obviously clean it up if it's got preinstalled shit. Read this guide.

Don't trust cryptonuts, they are a terrible echo chamber No True Scotsman cult.
I have to use windows 10 because i have 6 generation Intel processor, other words Intel I7-6700HQ. If I would not have that processor, i would use windows 7 or windows 8.1.

About 3 weeks ago windows 10 "User Account" had problems. The administrator account does not work. I don`t know, what caused it but I decided re-install windows 10.

Windows 10 is controversial OS. It has some nasty Microsoft spyware inside it. It can be shut down correct program and i have shut down it. I don`t want Microsoft to spy me.

Honestly i am not recommending Windows 10!
Unless it doesn't work, keep Windows 10. The only reason I switched back to 7 is that 10 often fails for me and, since I try to main Linux and stick to Windows for games, I don't lose that much (because I play old stuff). But Windows 10 isn't that bad, so stick with it.
Just got it a couple weeks back and haven't used it that much. Seems peppy enough but that has a lot to do with the new, faster laptop. Haven't encountered 3rd-party software compatibility problems yet; then again, I'm not a 'power user'.

A few annoyances / stuff I haven't yet grown accustomed to:

- Home edition, don't think you can turn off updates. Best I've found is to check the setting for Metered Connection, but that still pushes through updates. All it seems to do is to limit the time of day that updates can occur, but you WILL get them one way or another. I've read that you can control updates better with the Pro edition.

- Wireless Display / screen mirroring isn't working in 10. Read that a lot of folks had it working under 8 / 8.1 but the move to 10 killed it. Would really like to give it a try but it simply isn't working. Minor problem, not everyone has this difficulty.

- Gotta figure out where they stuffed everything in Settings. Seems dumbed-down in some regards, which explains why it's no longer called Control Panel - you don't get as much control. : )

Sorry to burst your bubble not all of us just play hello kitty or a game that can run on toaster.

You can still use the traditional control panel if you want by right clicking the Windows icon on the lower left corner and choosing it from there, if that's what you meant. I agree about the settings itself, though, as it took me a while to figure it out and still occassionally using the control panel myself.

Starkrun: Only other thing i can think of is AV... which is far better in 10 now then it was in 8 and 8.1... i would recommend Bitdefender FREE edition... only needs an email to get full version. again its low overhead and an install and forget system once registered.
Curious...I was using AVG Free for years until a problem popped up recently where it was continually getting stuck on scanning one particular file. I then figured "Well, I'll give Windows Defender a try until I find something else catches my eye." Your thoughts on AVG and/or Windows Defender, compared to Bitdefender?

All antivirus's are garbage prevention is better than recovery
If only thing you downloaded was on GOG and you secured your browser with stuff like noscript/disabled flash/ad blocking

What are you fearful of exactly?
Most people are people who think antivirus will pickup everything which just isn't the case.

Hence what AVG does which is try to detect bad things happening... but virus authors known what is up.

All those software firewalls are garbage too for things like trojans cause ... intellegent people just use popular apps likely already allowed IE, Firefox , Chrome , Steam , to just bypass it anyways.

Security is better on prevention than recovery.

Gotcha - thanks. Haven't played around with it very much, looking for options like that.
