Yeah, Perimeter really deserves to be in a definitive strategy list, for the concept alone if nothing else.

Please don't forget A.I.M. 2 Clan Wars a worthy successor of A.I.M. in every way possible! And I don't think there are license issues, because these games are already DRM-Free either on GamersGate or on Desura, so it should be not so tough to come here as well. personally I'm really hoping for bug-free version of the two AIM games, compatible with modern OSes.

Still, lower contenders are the resurrected corpse of Atari and Strategy First's own productions.

1C does have it's share of missfires but on the whole I think their games are pretty good and often quite original.

Its funny, but when someone mentioned Steam shovelware, 1C came to mind as the perfect example of games that aren't.
I might not always recognize the titles, but if I see 1C, I know the game is at least pretty decent...

I'd love to see the majority of their catalog here.

I kinda see 1C as the Russian equivalent of Atlus. No, not the developement house of Atlus that is responsible for the MegaTen series or Etrian Odyssey. But rather the publishing arm that brought Ogre Battle and Disgaea to our shores. Sure, some of there games may be a little rough around the edges, but they just seem so satisfying.

There is a distinct charm I find unique to Eastern European games that I can't get elsewhere. Also, they made me enjoy RTwP -- whereas I found it an obstacle or a negative point in Infinity/Aurora engine games, titles like the UFO After____ series made it more appealing. Yeah, I still need to boot up 7.62 HC.

Incidentally, the only reason I'm not getting around to Planet Alcatraz and Man of Prey (which I keep thinking is 1C, though I know it isn't [must be because it is an Apeiron game]) right now is because I'm currently playing Kyuuyaku Megami Tensei. But if work weren't so slow right now, I would definitely rebuy the 1C titles I have on Steam here, DRM free.

Yes the voice-acting in Planet Alcatraz was not that good, but as a whole the game felt unique...in a good way.
I really enjoyed the gameplay and the way it told its story.

SilaGames has them as well. They use the same one-time activation system as GamersGate.
No I'm not a big fan of GamersGate and the one-time activation system, I tolerate that system sparingly.
SilaGames have the same system.



Have you tried Fireflower ? Do you know whether they have a one-time activation system or a plain download ?

AIM reminded me of Aquanox but on land. Both are really fun series.

Yes the bug-free issue is one of the reasons I hope for a GOG treatment of these games.

Like I said in my post most of these 1C games are not perfect, they do suffer from technical issues, especially when played on modern systems, something a GOG treatment might cure.

Yes that's the thing, you can see where their inspiration comes from however they often add their own unique touch to these games, resulting in something that usually stands out to me...in a good way.

We already have Space Rangers HD : A war appart.
