Yeah, travelling with other than non-drm games... never again, thank you.

Wifi in hotels often have many outbound ports blocked on their guest network firewall. Galaxy pretty much only uses standard http and https ports. Steam and battlenet use an additional range of ports that may be blocked by the hotel's firewall.

I was typing exactly this, but I couldn't figure out how to make it clear. You ninjaed me, so now I don't have to. ;)

Yeah.... my answer is a little bit jargony so hopefully it's clear. I couldn't think of a way to put it without using jargon that didn't require a lot of explanation of basic networking. Had I tried to clarify it probably would've taken me a lot longer. :)

Not really. Unless the issue is with a personal firewall, which I doubt since you're saying it's specific to being in a hotel. If it's just something required for the software to call home to start you may be able to trick it by using a wifi hotspot on a cell phone and turn it off after it's called home. But I have no idea if that will work since I don't use Steam or Battlenet. And obviously if you want to play a game that requires an online connection, like a multiplayer one that won't really help you. But there's nothing you can do about network security on a network you don't have admin access to.
