Kobi-K: I don't think you can remap the keys. But once you get used to them they're pretty comfortable:
You might be right; I only tried the first level, just to see if it was working, and the controls felt scattered all over the keyboard. The way you describe them here shows a lot more conciseness than I was feeling while trying to test it out; I'll keep it in mind when I get around to replaying that game.

Cavalary: I could play it just fine on Win 7 after Blizz made it free. What's wrong with it now?

Not that I recall. Was in 2014, grabbed it shortly after they made it free, and just played it. The final levels, after 30, were a real pain, clear what to do but really tricky to actually do it, but other than that...
