VanishedOne: it's possible something just broke the dropdown with the arrival of phantom_liberty_title_title.
Maybe. The banner does seem like it was sized to fit the full menu with the movies entry included.
Edit: They fixed the Phantom Liberty title, but the movies entry is still gone.

neumi5694: And the free Fechtbuch documentation is also quite interesting, the making of of Kingdom come too, but not quite as.

Ice_Mage: Road 96 and Lichtspeer documentaries are also available, as DLC.
Also Double Fine Adventure, which is categorized as a game in the store, and which also has its own DLC (probably why the base product was released as a game) consisting mostly of the equivalent of DVD bonus features.

neumi5694: how good is the Atari movie?

I was tempted a few times.
As a fan of the old Atari, I absolutely loved the peek into the utter madness that thrived in that company, once.

With that said: the movie isn't really necessary, IF you have already read any good book about those early Atari years (especially, of course, if you've read the book "Once upon Atari: how I made history by killing an industry", by H.S.Warshaw - which is basically the blueprint for this movie).

And yeah, I tend to agree with WinterSnowfall: it may very well be the best of all the movies, that GOG had on offer
(though that's very dependent on where you're personal interests lie, of course).

So: if you like the old/original Atari and want to learn about its crazy history: give in the temptation and get the movie.

If you're generally interested in the history of video games (Atari, or not): also get the movie (it's definitely worth a watch).

The only people that probably shouldn't get it, are people who have zero interest in the beginnings of our hobby, and/or people who (in 2023) can't stand watching movies presented in 4:3 and 720p anymore.

I was never much of a fan of the Atari games, but I find the company interesting. I'm more of an Amiga child :)

I played a couple of times on an Atari, but we never had the money to get one. Even the Pong console and my first Frael Basic computer where I did my first programming steps were borrowed, same for a Sharp MZ80b, I also had access to some Casio handhelds (Space Attacker still rulez!).
That only changed with the Amiga 2000C + 286 Bridgeboard (so my father could use it for work too), that was quite a step forward.
I like the history of the companies however and am always eager to learn about the tricks they used to get pixels on the screen (or audio to the speakers).

You guys have me convinced, the Atari movie is definitly joining my collection.
Obviously it might mean more to some, myself included after years of childhood spent playing my family's 2600, but I would recommend the Atari movie to anybody who has an interest in gaming and especially the history of gaming.
btw, for tech geeks there is the 8BitGuy on Youtube (and of course also quite a few other content makers) who can give some insights how bitmasks were used in gaming for graphics.
To think that the consoles of the first generation could not even multiply, let alone generate random numbers and we still got acceleration in Mario and random elements in Tetris ... the tricks uised back then are quite interesting.

The store dropdown has recently had some new things added (city builders, etc.), and 'movies for gamers' is still absent, so conclude from that what you will

Somehow I missed this thread, so just started my own, where I was immediately advised of this thread. LOL

https://www.gog.com/forum/general/drmfree_movies_section_gone/page1

I just checked for the Movies section and could not find it.

I rarely checked it, since the number of movies had diminished significantly and most of the prices were ridiculous anyway, and nothing left really appealed to me.

Sad to see it go, but perfectly understandable I guess that GOG have given up on it.

Over the years I managed to purchase 10 movies from GOG. Of them, only three still have a store page ... Witcher Hunt Concert and two related to the Kingdom Come game.

Here's the thread about its auspicious beginning.

https://www.gog.com/forum/general/introducing_gogcom_drmfree_movies

Incidentally, it was the discounted The Deadly Tower of Monsters game that sent me looking for that section, as I wondered about the movie, which would have been great to grab if it was there ... and if decently priced.
Better make that 11 movies for me then ... forgot about Double Fine Adventure.

My favorite would be the Witcher 3 Great Hunt Concert.
Some of the others have been good though.

---------------------------------------------------------------

When I think of all the great game related movies that could have been here, it is a real shame that they never were.

P.S. I'd already seen the Atari movie just after it aired, as I'd recorded it at that time. Okay to watch once, as it was quite interesting and an eye opener, but I doubt I would ever watch it again.

hmm ... I'm a bit disappointed by he Atari movie.

Sure, it was nice to hear about how working there on a daily base was. Nothing really new, except for a few anecdotes, also about programming tricks.
One guy said something like: "Atari was already big when I joined" and only a minute later "I was there from the beginning" ... sure.

Sadly there was not much about the company history itself, how it was founded, how they acted when it came to competitors and so on

From what I understand, it's a fictitious movie referenced in the game's plot, rather than an actual movie you can watch.

It seems you are right.

I did wonder ... though I had the same suspicion ... and so worth a look.
I tried asking on Discord twice too, but got no response. GOG will have to make an official statement sooner or later.

There's either "limited slots" in the menu or they are trying to silently retire this service.

high rated
I wish GOG put actual effort into the movies. They could have sold public domain movies, remastered and complete. Plus, efforts to aim at niche stuff like Blake's 7, or the BBC Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, that presumably have relatively low value to their owners.

Probably not the biggest money maker, but it would have been nice to have a DRM-free archive of such things.
