Lord-Marlock: A very interesting discussion. What personal data exactly are we talking about?
Hi Lord-Marlock!

Good question. Using leegal zlang,
the usual long littany of useless & unclear vommit of words...
Please, be my guest:

support DOT gog DOT com/hc/en-us/articles/212632109-Privacy-Policy?product=gog

I rezcue from there (semiquoted):
///Read the attachment:
Ive been dealing half hour with "Please wait. Processing.."
and I know first hand is due some words censored on this place///

Then, maybe all our hours of frustrattion trained the bot,
cookies here & there,
trackers (some visible on the url bar)
""anonymised"" info
and anything else my tinffoil hat can imagine...
Is personal data the zmut vgames I own?
Is personal data the exact dates & times I play them
& my achievements there? XD (If galaxy user)

Anyway... the short version I propose:
Why dont we raise a ticket asking for
the bundle of our information collected?
Isnt supposed we are enntitled to that by laaw?
What do you say? And what does the rest of the community think?
Lets test once more the incredible stellar support of this store...

Note: Typos on purpose due the censored words...

Last time I did, I created a thread which got COMPLETELY DELETED
plus a not nice chat keed level with a community mod...
SO, Im just wondering & considering to start writting as Orc...

Breja: Keep in mind, that was also their method of choice for pushing Galaxy when they tried to bundle it with offline installers and make installing the client an opt-out feature.
I actually resisted using Galaxy for several years because of that. I eventually did decide to use it, but the key word is "decide". Now I'm wondering if I can free up enough hard drive space to collect all my offline installers (and wondering how reliable they still are), because GOG doing shady stuff like this feels like a sign that it might be on the decline. I really, really like GOG. I've used it for years and still buy games here on a regular basis. If there's a choice between GOG and Steam, I almost always go with GOG. That makes it all the more distressing to witness the steadily increasing ensh*ttification of the site.

TheDcoder: GOG Don't Giveaway Consent - An user script to revoke consent automatically
I made it because I don't want to do it manually every time I claim a game, enjoy! Spread the word far and wide :)

Posting here since I can't create a new topic for some reason.

No idea what happened, but that's what I get for trusting a 3rd-party site for hosting. But worry not, you can also get it from my GitHub account: gist[.]github[.]com/TheDcoder/5dd6a1318fc4e65b7d5715577c91451b

joppo: At least I'm relieved to know my data is not sent as soon as I click that button on the frontpage.

aquaSolus:
"I'm relieved to know" – really ? But how can you "know" for sure ?

Say, if it so happens that a "manual transfer" was due less than a minute after your claiming the giveaway, were you quick enough that your data was not transferred already when you unchecked the box in your User Settings ? Suspenseful... Were you there in the nick of time ?

You simply don't know, unless specifically told – personally (good luck with that, as such precedent would create an unbearable workload eventually).
A minute? Yes. I believe I need about 6 seconds to claim the freebie, change to a tab that is open in "Orders & Settings", switching it to "Subscriptions" and unchecking whatever is checked there.

Technically you're not wrong, but you seem to be under the impression that, in a company that is as understaffed as we know Gog is, there's an employee clicking the "Send to Facebook" button once every 10 seconds. Talk about an "unbearable workload". I think it is safe to assume that Gog won't divert an employee to do this task and spend more time (and thus wages) on it than they get out of the advert behemoths. How much do they get out of sending data every hour compared to doing it once a day? I can't think it's enough to offset the cost of having that employee interrupt whatever activity they were doing.

Although you have a point that I could have the misfortune of claiming the freebie at the exact wrong moment. So you just gave me an idea and from now on I'll only click the button when it's late night in Poland. I don't suppose they will pay an employee to stay awake clicking "Send to FB" between midnight and dawn, do you?

That's of course if we can believe that the process hasn't been automated. I choose to believe that Clownski didn't state a direct lie, tho Gog have "earned" our wariness of the presence of lies by omission whenever a Gog employee states anything in any controversial topic.
I created a new thread for my script: /forum/general/gog_dont_giveaway_consent_an_user_script_to_revoke_consent_automatically

Ancient-Red-Dragon: I disagree.

The only way for GOG to be "doing right by me" would be for GOG never to engage in any of these spyware-esque shenanigans at all, period.
Not sure I understand your disagreement with what I said.

If there is a checkbox, checked, and we uncheck it before clicking CLAIM, where is the issue? I got the game and I did not agree to sharing my personal data.

It is similar for Galaxy for me. I don't like it and don't use it, but I have no real issue with other folk using it, unless it impacts me negatively.

So if some folk want to leave that option checked, then I have no problem with that. All I care about is GOG sharing my personal data without my REAL permission. In reality, those type of folk probably don't have the share option deselected in Subscriptions anyway.

But maybe you mean other spyware type stuff that GOG uses? Which I wan't addressing at all, despite having a similar dislike about anything like that.

EDIT
I am presuming you read my earlier post, which is about a checkbox next to the CLAIM button, not the checkbox in Subscriptions, and it does nothing until the CLAIM button is clicked, and only if left checked (selected).
That checkbox next to the CLAIM button would not even need to appear for those who have the checkbox in Subscriptions already selected.

I think the issue is that the checkbox gets toggled when you claim, regardless of the option's previous non-existence or setting beforehand.

Additionally, it isn't ascertained what data is being gathered or sent in the first place, which I feel is one of those requirements as well.

Is the one on the left an old screenshot, or an edit of the current screenshot to look like an old one? The "through ... Trusted Partners' services" appears in the top-level "never miss" tickbox's text too, and either that's new, or it's something that I missed the significance of before.

Clownski_: This process is done manually, so opting out immediately after claiming the giveaway is possible if you don't want your data to be included. Same thing with newsletters – if at one point you accept marketing consent, but opt out before the next newsletter send-out, you won't receive one.
Please would you clarify what data GOG send to the Trusted Partners even when the "Marketing communications through Trusted Partners' services" box is unticked?

It seems you missed an earlier post of mine.
The checkbox I am speaking of is not that checkbox, but one next to the CLAIM button. It doesn't exist right now but should and should work in the manner I suggested. In other words, you can opt out of the need to toggle and still get the game. I explained in greater detail previously.

octalot: Is the one on the left an old screenshot, or an edit of the current screenshot to look like an old one?
As this is my screenshot, I think, I can answer this best.

For convenience reasons (I was too lazy to look through my old screenshots, when I posted my comment) I simply edited the right screenshot (of the new agreement) to look like the old agreement (left screenshot).

However - I still have an old screenshot from January 2023, where you can see the old agreement in its original wording (see attachment).

I hope that answers your question and soothes your potential suspicions of foul play.

I'm suspecting foul play by GOG, not by you, which is why I asked Clownski_ for a clarification, and I'm still waiting for it.

The text "and through GOG services and GOG’s Trusted Partners’ services" has been added to a previously existing tickbox (the one that also covers wishlists and release announcements). This thread is complaining about the automatic ticking of a new tickbox, but it appears GOG is adding the complained about consent to the existing checkboxes too.
