No shit it has "derogative connotations". Illnesses, disabilities and disorders are bad. Cluelessly inserting yourself into any social situation as the butt of the joke is bad. Obsessing over a book for primary schoolers when you're eligible to emancipate and marry and almost eligible for the draft is bad.

No you would be the first one to kick up a stink.
On what grounds? "Someone on the internet mentioned a disorder, and my relative happens to have it, so I'm offended?" Bring it on.

I didn't really have any stressors in high school. I was a laid back kid, kept to myself. But there are classes I had trouble with.
-Math
Math was my weakest point. I thought I liked it. I didn't suck at it, just not cut out for it. I don't know if having the same teacher for your math classes each year helped or not, I doubt it. It's just the way it is with country schools I guess.
So mad respect to you, dtgreene. :)
-Science
I had a science teacher I thought was cool. Turned out he was a bit of snob with high standards. He would dock you points on every little thing on experiments. One time he expressed regret teaching here. I had to take an F and take a different science class with another teacher, I wasn't the only one. Students would flunk out of his classes. Only positive thing I remember was watching Cosmos by Carl Sagan, only a few episodes sadly.

That said, why is this battle even going on? Someone gets offended at an ad hominem, and returns with ad hominems. This is obviously manipulative behavior, regardless of whether someone's actually offended or not.

a) Mathematical analysis... algebra was always OKish to me. I sort of made my peace with analysis in collage, after realizing high-school math is mostly child's play. I've always hated pure/non-applied mathematics, and this is coming from someone who almost majored in Physics, but ultimately picked Computer Engineering.
b) Girls. Most women are strange even in their best years (la donna e mobile!), let alone when growing up. Still, I could always relate more to my friends who happened to be girls, but when it got to more than that I always found myself on very uneven ground. Guess it's a pretty common story for us male introverts.
c) Unlike most other people, I never had much doubt about what I wanted to do in the future - it most certainly would be something to do with computers and computer programming. The support I got from my family to pursue this in general however was practically non-existent (a situation I've found myself throughout my life). If anything they did their best to get in the way at times. I guess this should be regarded as the no. 1 "stressor". It's less of a concern now when I'm self-sufficient, but having no one you can rely on when growing up pretty much sucks big time.

There are also local social aspects that have to be considered, besides culture. A region's poverty level will also influence the type of people you come in contact with, and "less than ideal" characters can at times be common occurrence with both sexes, to a point where it becomes less a story about a few "bad apples", but rather a few "good apples".
Besides that deeper nuance, yes, there are some places/cultures on Earth where "Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus", especially in, but not limited to, the Arab world.

In general, there's a lot less difference between a man and a woman, than there is between any two random individuals - whatever their sex/gender.

Otherwise there are certain biological differences which can't be denied and serve their purpose. But let's not derail this thread even further.

I don't think we're derailing this thread. For many people, social interaction (with the "opposite sex" or not), is a relevant stressor while growing up. What's wrong with discussing this subject/aspect a bit more in-depth?
So you agree but just wanted to share your personal experience/views. Cool! Sharing is caring! :-P

Bullying, easily.
I think if you made an histogram with people's top responses, bullying would be dead centre.
Second for me would be not knowing where my life is going, which is something I still struggle with.
Can't think of anything else.
