I would say that the best april fools jokes are those that consist of adding features, and then linking to them. Also, joke news stories are better if they are outlandish rather than believable.
The worst jokes are those that interfere with normal operation, like removing an accessibility feature (which discord apparently did today, then reversed after complaints).

Speaking of Blizzard I remember April the first of 2014, when Blizzard employees made a post about alleged Draenei female model revamp, notably "Playing up the capra-like slender reverse-ankle and hoof, and adding tasteful amounts of fur" and conveying through it a story of a "rebellious young girl".

/r/Diablo turned the entire reddit sub into a phone due to Blizzard asking if people owned phones...pretty funny. You got to be on a desktop and use custom CSS to see it.

Not gaming, but Metal Archives has a great one running today.
They finally got rid of all the shitty bands and cut off the good bands when they *should* have stopped. Check out Metallica's entry. :)

I would have cried happily if characters like Kim Possible, Samurai Jack or even Ren & Stimpy were announced for Smash Bros Ultimate or even a (heavily expanded) Jump Ultimate Stars remake.
Oh well. Maybe next year. ^_^
*hopes a cartoon/anime crossover RPG bigger than Kingdom Hearts will one day appear*
In other news, one site that I visit, Newgrounds, blocked visitors from viewing all of the games and movies they host in protest of Article 13.
It made me glad that April Fools Day only happens once a year. ~_^
