I'm looking through my library and see a lot of "NEW" tags. The odd thing is, this tag seems to be random.

It's not on all new purchases. This tag isn't on all my purchases from the Winter Sale. I still have the tag on stuff I bought last year.

It's not on new released products.

So, what's this tag about? Is it just broken?

Have you clicked on them? I thought that's what did it for me, getting rid of the new tag. Not necessarily downloading but just opening up the game page, looking at the download options and stuff.

I think after you buy something, it stays "new" until you click on it in your library.
WRONG: It means the game has received some kind of updated content (mostly patches, but afaict not solely), and you haven't yet opened up its download window in your library since that update.

The 'New' tag only appears for games u hv nv clicked on in ur library aft u obtained them. They r only new in that sense, thus games u bought yrs ago can still hv the 'New' tag on them. Hope that helps. :)
While the New tag does clear when you click on the game's icon inside your library, sometimes it's way too stubborn to go away. Bug? Who knows, but happened to me numerous times. Try downloading something -- it should help, even if you cancel the download immediately.

I'm afraid you have this one mixed up, any sort of update is marked with a little blue dot.

zeogold has it right - the "New" tag is assigned to a game at the time of purchase and remains until one clicks on the game, regardless of downloading anything or not. Same goes for the little blue dot.

Note though, that if a game is purchased as a gift, and added to one's own account at a later time, it is not assigned the "New" tag.

Ah, indeed. My bad!
"New" appears on games that are never downloaded.

I have clicked on them, downloaded some of them, played some of them and completed some of them.

I have Tomb Raider 1 marked as new, I've clicked, downloaded, played, completed it earlier this year. pretty sure it hasn't gotten an update since.

Not sure about that. I have downloaded and installed games through Galaxy, yet they still had the new tag. It only went away after I clicked on them through "My Account" in a browser.
And in earlier times, when I would download on Fridays, I could get rid of the new tag by clicking the game, even without downloading it.

If this is what it's suppose to do, I think it's broken.

You clicked on the games through the browser or through Galaxy?

That's it. Click inside Galaxy doesn't do anything, only when I click it in the browser does it go away.
