I can no longer remember the titles, but my family and I would sit together and play these computer games where the character would have to search the room for clues and be able to move about and not lose their life or some other quest. I can't figure where to look for such games, as I would love to get my boys and I to play those games and see if we could do them again. The one was in an insane asylum and every move we made, he would die. LOL Anyone remember these games and know where I could find them? Thanks in advance.
Sounds like 'room escape' apart from the dying part.

Do you remember something like this? https://www.mobygames.com/game/146155/dungeon-escape/

Can you give a time frame? Saying "...my family and I would sit together and play" isn't helpful because we don't know how old you are, or even roughly how long ago this is.

Allison_Meckley: What genre was this old game?
the character would have to search the room for clues and be able to move about and not lose their life
The one was in an insane asylum and every move we made, he would die.
Like paladin181 wrote: info! - we need more info!

When did you play that? In what year.
And was the game still new in that year or was it "old" already?
Was it done in pixel graphics or not?
Was it a point and click adventure - that is: did you have to hover your mouse pointer over stuff in a static screen and click on it?
(that (point and click) would then be the genre, you're looking for, btw)
Was it 2D/in isometric perspective or in 3D?
If the latter: in first person or third person?

Going by your description alone, the genre(s) I would guess, is/are:
- Point and Click (Horror) Adventure
- Survival Horror
- Possibly: Hidden Object Game or HOG (though your: "every move he made, he would die" doesn't really fit those games).
the " The one was in an insane asylum " reminds me of good old point&click "Sanitarium" that 1st chapter was happening in a very odd mental institute
more recent, STASIS reminded me a lot of Sanitarium , though it was more scifi the atmosphere had a lot of the "insane asylum" vibes

CAYNE , on the same universe as STASIS , but much less good, (and available for free on gog) too

This sounds like the beginning of Countdown:
