Which games are keeping you company this weekend?



This weekend will be choke-full of Wang! Which means ridiculously gruesome action, impossible antics, and loooots of swagger. Remember any other gory games that tickled your fancy with their unapologetical bloodbaths and insane bodycounts? Were they extra-splattery? Did they make your shooting finger hurt? Was the amount of enemies equal to that of a small country? Whatever the reason, give us their names!


Surely you've got some gaming planned for this weekend, too. Go on, share your Weekend Playlist with us. It can include single-player games, multiplayer games, console exclusives, anything - we are not judging. In fact, we are sharing too!

Most gory I played so far is Dying Light. Sometimes I even had the urge to not watch.

Likely games this weekend are Grim Dawn, Master of Orion (2016), and also Ridge Racer Unbounded on PS3.

I'm also considering picking up Dragon Quest Builders for Vita, though I may wait for a sale or price drop.

I'm mainly an RPG and strategy player, so don't have too many gore examples. Diablo 3 maybe?

My first instinct for "bloodbath" were the Kill Bill movies. Those were so bloody it was almost humorous.

Thinking of starting Lennus 2 (the Japan only sequel to Paladin's Quest).

The final battle of Paladin's Quest may not have much blood and gore, but it certainly feels like a bloodbath, given how powerful the boss's attacks are. It is possible, in a game where mid-battle resurrection is impossible, for a character to go from full HP to 0 in a single round.

Fortunately, there is a spell that inflicts half the damage back on the attacker, but only some characters have access to it, and none of the end-game mercenaries have it. (Only Fastjo, who is mid-game, and Lilie, who appears just before what I would consider to be the start of the endgame, have it aside from the main characters.)

Of course, even knowing this, victory isn't guaranteed, and the nearest save point is a long way away. (I hear Lennus 2 allows you to save almost anywhere and revive mid-battle, but the final boss isn't nearly as strong.)

I'll probably be playing the old Han Kuji map for Starcraft Broodwar I recently discovered in some old file backups. I'm weird like that. Ever seen a Medic go splat? Pretty gory.

In my Telltale-athon I am up to Wolf Among Us. That is clearly a play with Mel game, so while she isn't around I installed a few that seems short one or two session titles.
- Albedo: eyes from Outer Space
- Her Story
- Toren
Also Installed Gurumin: a Monsterous Adventure but that one looks like it a bit of a larger game time investment, so it can wait until the three above are done.

Bloodbath: Likely the dead rising series. Dispatching thousands upon thousands of zombies is hilariously, stupidly fun.

i get no satisfaction from "bloodbaths"; in fact i don't like baths in general. but i do like the smell of my skin, my clothes and my socks :P and since i got a visa electron and mastercard both on same bank account with 3d secure service, i was thinking maybe i should sell some of my old clothes so that others might enjoy my smells too! (^_^)

but about bloodbaths - in jagged alliance 2 you kill hordes of enemies and their bodies start to rot after a few days. then crows gather to eat them. and if some of your team mates get close enough to the corpses they may react in different ways. that german mercenary Buns laughs while Ira says it's revolting... :-/ btw you can even shoot the crows to train your marksman skill

I still need to get back to finishing up Breath of Fire and play some more Sam and Max Save the World. I feel like I should play something horror/Halloween-themed but can't decide what.

Favorite bloodbath...I'm a big fan of early 90s Midway/Williams games, especially Narc, Smash TV, Total Carnage, and the Mortal Kombat games. I was almost literally ROTFLOL the first time I shot a guy in Narc with the rocket launcher and watched his body parts rain down from the sky.

I thought of another example of a battle that would have to be bloody, even though no blood is shown or mentioned.

In the original Bard's Tale, there is one room in which your party (of at most 6 plus a monster) is faced with the following:
99 Berserkers
99 Berserkers
99 Berserkers
and (as if that weren't enough):
99 Berserkers

The battle isn't that hard, surprisingly (though you will need to use attacks that hit multiple enemies, like Mind Blade and Fire Horns), but it takes a while. It does give decent experience, but it might not actually be the best place to earn XP.

Might and Magic 2 also has encounters with as many as 200+ enemies at a time, but at most 10 can act in a single round (unless you are fighting enemies that can frenzy, killing themselves to allow other enemies to advance and attack while hurting your entire party).

Speaking of Might and Magic, in the NES version of the first game, any fight in which a Locust Plague is allowed to act will not turn out well for the party; unless someone in your party is faster than them, expect the Locust Plague to kill your entire party without you getting a turn.

Hmmm... I have recently watched Deathgasm so I feel some kind of urge to play something that has lots of blood and metal music in it. Probably Death Skid Marks (again). I should too retake also my Shadow Warrior game so that I finish it before getting the second part...

The most spectacular bloodbath? Probably Dwarf Fortress ;)
