BreOl72: Well...
"Quite ironically, WarGames, a title dealing with rogue AI conflict, was shipped with a piece of malicious software on CD. The virus was called Win32/Marburg and it could infect executable files, as well as it used an algorithm to avoid detection by AV programs. While the game executable weren't affected, the registration tool was and anyone interested in registering their copy of WarGames could have been a victim. MGM recalled the game and offered a clean replacement with a free copy of Norton Antivirus to all who have purchased it." This may be the first time I hear of a video game being recalled.
No idea about the recall as any of the anti-virus software of the time caught it. I just remember fondly playing the title with my Uncle and am wondering if there are folks out there that play it. Right now it seems that 3d even with DG voodoo is beyond me as while I had a brief luck in getting it to work it is VERY hit or miss as you have to be on the ball to the nanosecond with DG voodoo otherwise the game freezes and stuff goes south.
God I wish gog would add this game to the store so I could play it once again without the hassle as while Starcraft and other RTS outshone it this one had a lot of good things despite the poor pathfinding AI. Sound Design and music especially.
