I think VR is the future, it just depends on when do you get yours. I thought an iPad 3 was nice because it had a retina display, but apple stopped issuing software for it years ago. Is VR different? I dont know.
Everyone should know that the term for VR is in fact " HMD " Head Mounted Display.

Under U$D400?! Hahahahahaha! Make something from cardboard where you can put your mobile! That is probably the only half decent thing for a reasonable cost as long as your mobile is at least half decent.

VR should have had some kind of open standards so people could get the addons piece by piece or even make their own head display with a mix of motion tracking.

Headset has already been associated with bluetooth and corded microphone headphone sets. VR should also include the special controllers or VR gloves too for proper interaction. Is the cooking pot hat and imagination not good enough? :p
