All I can remember about this game is a bit from the trailer. This is from the days of gaming magazines with accompanying CDs filled with 600 MB of mostly demos and game trailers. Every now and again it seems I randomly remember one of the demos I played or trailers I saw, and then I get curious as to what it was.

All I remember is the following : There is this shiny knight type guy in a long hall (possibly a cathedral type building) possibly praying/meditating at an altar. The door gets kicked in my a big demon monster type thing. They charge at each other and a fight ensues.

Uhm, thats it unfortunately :P It's hard for me to guess the year in which this game would've been released, but I rough estimate would be around 2000.

Could be the intro to either Dungeon Keeper 1 or Dungeon Keeper 2.
if it's not DK1 or DK2, and you remember the name of the magazine, you could do so mighty research in the internets™ and come up with something - with luck it's one of the magazines that are catalogued as PDFs for free... I found something some time ago, and I think they also listed the freebie demos. But might take... a while :)
Check out intro for Heroes of Might and Magic 5.

Hmm might be Die by the Sword, except about the cathedral

I have to admit, DK was the one that popped into my mind too.
I hope you figure it out, I've still got one of these trailers stuck in my head too and it's annoying as hell.
Maybe once there are more clues I can help, but right now I'm not getting anything.

Ah yes thank you that must be it :)

Almost certainly Dungeon Keeper I would say... I'm sure there is a cutscene or video in it that is exactly what you describe, but I'm not finding it...

I think it is from one of the campaigns (DK 1 I believe if my memory of the scene is correct)

Because you can't remember which game it was from? Then create a thread :) I love these 'trying to remember a game' threads. Most of the time the mystery game is revealed sooner or later.

Dungeon Keeper 2's intro is a lot like what I described but I forgot to mention that the trailer's setting was definitely above ground :)

Huh. I could have sworn there was an identical scene in Dungeon Keeper... it's going to annoy me now XD

I know so little about it that I don't want to create a thread about it and bother people with it :P
All I remember is that it was some kind of sci-fi or cyberpunk game and there was a bit where a character vaulted over a counter during a firefight.
It might even be a vaporware game.

That might be what I remember, but I seem to think it was more the DK one style of video, with a knight praying and the door bashed in by a Horned Reaper, followed by a duel between the two...

But I might have just imagined it.

It's not like a lot of us have anything better to do when we're on the forum and anyhow, it's always fun to figure out :) I don't think that's too vague at all though. A cyberpunk/sci-fi-ish game with an intro in which there is a firefight, possibly with some counter jumping. Should be enough, especially if you have a very rough idea of when it came out, or when you think it would've come out.

I can venture one guess though: Urban Chaos Intro from 1999. It's not sci-fi really, but a vague memory can easily mistake it as such. There is a big firefight and at around 3:15 one dude jumps over a railing.

Nah, it was much more recent. Probably post 2006.
