bluethief: Yeah, I think is the worst mechanic in the game, especially compared to more modern ones.

morolf: I haven't played the later Witcher games yet, don't know if their combat system is really better, my impression is they're more like action games in a way...so also not that great for an rpg fan.
But I suppose the strength of the Witcher games lies more in general atmosphere, the characters and the story, the combat isn't all that important.
Yes, they're more like action games and imo they're better. There are a lot of people who think Witcher 3 combat is weak, but most of them are used to Dark Souls type of games, so they expect something along the lines of its combat.

For me it was fine. Had no problem with it. Witcher 2's combat is similar but worse, since it came first.

PaterAlf: Back in 2007 I played mostly freeware games. Most of your games on the list are some of the best freeware releases of that year. I can wholeheartedly recommend TAGAP: The Apocalyptic Game About Penguins (an amazing 2D shooter that even had two sequels), Hurrican (a Turrican remake), A Tale of Two Kingdoms (a Sierra style adventure game which got a commercial release later) and Trilby: The Art of Theft (a platform stealth game made with the AGS engine).
Thanks for the recommendations! Like you I played a lot of freeware games from that era, but I somehow missed all of these. It's especially strange I missed Trilby since I enjoyed all of those point and click games.
