When I load up gog galaxy, I get the above message pop up in a small window, with header 'gog galaxy update problem'. It says i can redownload gog galaxy from a link that gives the address for it.

If i click ok gog galaxy goes on to load and seems to run without problems. But I wasn't happy with it because what if I want to have the latest version. So i uninstalled my gog galaxy and my gog games with it. And redownloaded galaxy and reinstalled it after a reboot.

The problem is I'm getting the same message come up. How can I fix it? My version comes up as 1.2.26. I tried to attach a picture but the screen grab and paste onto microsoft paint says the file is too big.

Try running it as admin.

The "solution" was dated 2016. Anyway even if I double-clicked the EXE file directly, the popup still appears.

Going to compatibility and ticking RUN PROGRAM AS ADMINISTRATOR did not help. Right-clicking on the EXE and then selecting RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR did not help too.

I've been getting this error occasionally over the last couple weeks. The Galaxy updater log shows a syntax error when reading the update manifest (files-windows.json), which is likely a screw up on GOG's end. Eventually it always starts working again without making any changes to my system.

They need to change the displayed error message so it stops freaking people out.

This problem is also affecting GOG Galaxy on MacOS, it's not just a Windows issue.

It's been happening occasionally. My solution was to close it, and tell it to try again by opening it.

it's not occasionally , it's every time, on my home computer, and on my work computer (oups.. don't tell my boss please)
both are on windows 10 though. But different hardware.

Anyway, i think it happens to everybody all the times, not just me, not just the op, and not occasionnaly

nope! it is 2021! July! this has started happening to me today! and also I downloaded a "new" copy of Galaxy and then it said "same version will be installed" PAH! I install it and it prompts for update and says exactly that message! Still not fixed! and it is 4 years into the future! :(

I've been having this issue since the latest hotfix released Jan 30th and none of the solutions provided seem to solve the issue. I've not reinstalled GOG because I'm afraid I might lose custom game information I loaded into it such as locally installed games etc. and I don't want to redo it all. Ive opened a ticket but not sure if they even look at those.

Well good to know im not the only one at least....from the sounds of it people are having all manners of problems after the latest patch so maybe this is a good thing lol

Downloading the installer from homepage and start it with adminrights has worked for me on my system today. Hopefully this silly problem is history now...
