So there's this game called The Reap, it was made in 1997 by Housemarque Games and published by Take 2. I used to play it way back on the old WinXP PC we had and I'm dying to play it again. I've managed to find the actual game, but not a patch for it.

But, Housemarque doesn't distribute the patch that let's you play it on WinXP anymore for some reason. So I was wondering if anyone has the patch, or has found it somewhere. It should be named reapatch.zip

I've looked everywhere for it, but all I've found was either Megaupload- or Snesorama links. Both of those sites are gone.

EDIT: It's an isometric Shoot 'Em up if that helps at all, sort of similar to Zaxxon.

So yeah. I'd really appreciate any help. I don't expect anyone to have it, but might as well try!

I can't stand situations like this, makes me very frustrated with the industry. Good luck.

Never played it and don't have the game, but is this it?

EDIT: Probably not since it's dated 06-09-1999.

All I can do is to encourage you to ask there if someone still has the patch file.
And if you get it, Keep Circulating The Tapes!

It wasn't this "Cyrix fix"?

http://dlh.net/cgi-bin/dlp.cgi?lang=eng&sys=pc&file=reapupd.zip&ref=ps

Anyway, I have the same game, and I remember installing and playing it a bit like a year ago, and it ran ok. even in full screen.

The thing is, I don't remember if I installed it on my Win2000, or XP, machine, if that matters? I try to remember to check if I obtained a patch for it, at least I remember looking for some patch for it.

I wonder if I mentioned about the game (and running it) here before? I wonder if the GOG forum search is working reliably now? :)

EDIT: I knew I wasn't just imagining it.

(I had to use google to find that message, I didn't find it with GOG search option)

I'll try to check if I found a patch. I probably ran it on Win2000 (not XP) because in the same message I mention also Warcraft 3 which I had installed on that same system. Afterwards, that Win2000 installation got corrupted and I couldn't be arsed to re-install it again.

Yeah that's the unofficial "Cyrix Fix", but I can't remember if I need the official patch as well, or if that just works, need to try it. From what I know, It'll run on anything from WinXP to 95. If you have the patch that is.

Guess 95 and 98 don't need patch, but 2000 and XP require it. Don't really have access to the first three, so can't try it on those.

Good news, apparently I did at least locate the patch somewhere last July.

Too bad I didn't mention in that message where I found it, but apparently it is somewhere in the net. I'll just need to dig it out from my Win2000 HD which is now disconnected.
I think the Cyrix fix was the only patch out there. As far as I know I have a patch on my external hard drive, I'll have a look tomorrow when I have time.

I got it now, but I am unsure how to deliver it to you. I renamed reapatch.zip to reapatch.gif and attached it to this message, so change it back to zip (right click, "Save (Link) As" and change the name back to reapatch.zip).

As said, I don't remember where I got it, but at least it worked for me earlier in Win2000 (and my virus scanners don't see anything wrong with it). I've yet to try it in Win7.

I'll check if I can get it published in www.patches-scrolls.de

Seems like they're both the same patch, just different names, so I'm pretty sure either of them will work. Going to try them today.

Do you mean the Cyrix patch that's already on patches-scrolls? Did you perform a md5 checksum check on the files?

Good if that is the case, but then the Cyrix patch for "The Reap" seems to have been published even before Win2000, or XP for that matter were published (Win2000 was published in Feb 2000, XP in Oct 2001, the Cyrix patch in June 1999).

Yup same md5 and they both work, but you can't go fullscreen unless you drop your resolution, and the music is a bit buggy at times.
(on WinXP)

On Win7 it doesn't even install the damn thing, nor work otherwise, as expected.
Found the official patch you are looking for :

http://www.gamefront.com/files/904098/reapupd.zip

Took a bit of Google-Fu but that is the official fix for it that makes it work on XP

A little late but thanks anyway. ^^

Thread Closed, unless someone has questions.
Still one note, as I tried it on Win7 64bit (Lenovo ThinkPad T400):

Installation failed even with compatibility modes.

If you install on XP (applying the patch) and copy the installation directory to the Win7 machine, it seems to work pretty good, it is quite stable, full screen and all, etc., albeit a bit of scratchy sounds at times (more like a faint tapping sound in the background), which was the case already in XP.

The only real problem is that it seems to run a bit too fast, making it barely playable. I have no idea if this is due to Win7 or the CPU speed (EDIT: Or, could it be fixed also with vsync? I don't know if it is currently off.). Using compatibility modes didn't seem to have any effect, for good or worse.

I didn't play with any CPU core affinity settings or CPU slow down utilities, in case they help. But apparently it has some speed issues on faster PCs. Too bad because it seemed quite stable to me on Win7, as long as the installation problem was sorted out.
