Wow O_O I think the guy is an idiot who doesn't know how to do PR (seriously, don't compare your customers to terrorists! XD). However I hope that the site being down isn't due to an intentional attack. That would just reinforce his stupid generalization.
I also like how his Twitter profile description now reads "I speak for George, and not Dell or anyone else."

I don't think that's going to help anything...

On a related note, I think that a lot of industry professionals need to realize that, for them, social media is not a "safe zone." What they post on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, etc still has to be professional, because hundreds of thousands of their customers are going to read it. Unless your profile is set to "private," it's just as public as anything you might say during an interview or on a conference stage.

I'm gonna guess it's due to a massive influx of people writing to Dell, expressing their disapproval :P.

I think it's because they have gone into damage control mode because of disgruntled emails over these tweets. Otherwise their whole page would probably have been gone down... We will be wiser in the near future, if a coporate statement suddenly pops up that reads something like: "We at Dell respect all people! And we are sorry if we offended you, it was not our intent. Please love us!" The usual, y'know...

When the target zone for that tweet are stupid manchildren, of course they are not going to act in a civil way.
I do have to say, does anyone feel like some of the character attacks on Leigh Alexander are a little weak? I mean, her tweets do paint her as a little egotistic, but I feel like the allegations of racism etc are taking things a little far. I think everyone has accidentally said things lightly that could be interpreted as hateful if they were taken too seriously.

From what I can tell, this whole crap is about paid journalism. Well, hello, welcome to the real world, where news being worthy of news (as in, bringing in coins) are reported, and stories bringing in coins are published.

I guess people want to kindly inform Dell of their representative's doings :)
Looks like gamergate ends careers after all :)

Still don't understand.

Are you saying all journalists participate in underhanded dealings, promote a one-sided political agenda, and act like feral caged animals attacking the hands that feed them when anyone takes issue with that?

EDIT: not that I'm saying there's any definitive proof of underhanded dealings yet. Again, jumping to conclusions never helped anyone.

That's why I said, "from what I can tell". I am not up to date with this whole thing. I guess I should shut up. :p

It's... a little hard to keep up to date with unless you've been following it from the beginning :P

Especially since the big news sites are spinning their own narrative that doesn't necessarily reflect reality

the fun part is that they say that it is the other side who are spinning narratives which do not reflect reality... *shrug*

I'm certainly not going to send her any insulting messages, but her articles did seem a bit bigoted to me. It's the sort of mindset that she knows what's best for women and minorities, and if anyone disagrees with her they must be a white male "neckbeard" or whatever. It's kind of racist and sexist against everyone but for different reasons (blatantly insulting to white men, and condescending or patronizing towards women and minorities). So I don't really think people are wrong for drawing that conclusion, but it doesn't solve anything to personally attack her either. It makes more sense to focus on the fact that her "journalism" is unprofessional and what she says shouldn't be taken as fact by mainstream media.

Well, it would be silly to say a lot of Gamergate supporters aren't also spinning their own narratives, or biasing things in their favor. Stupid stuff is coming from both sides. The difference is, a lot of the stupid stuff coming from the anti-gamergate side of things is coming from people who are supposedly professionals. There's a big difference between a random nobody on Twitter claiming something stupid, and a paid writer for a huge online news outlet writing an entire article saying something stupid.

The fact that most mainstream gaming media can't (or won't) cover or respond to Gamergate in even a remotely unbiased, professional fashion is what's really concerning to me right now.

so far, the whole thing is just a load of "Merda taurorum animas conturbit"... from both sides. The quicker people can just bury this whole embarrassing thing (and embarrassing I still mean from both sides) the better for humanity.

I disagree. I think there are some legitimate problems being addressed by the insanity of gamergate, and thus far there have actually been some positive changes. And, despite my distaste for angry mobs, the only way more changes are going to occur is by a lot of people being angry or disillusioned enough to take action. And when a lot of people are angry and disillusioned, embarrassment tends to happen.
