Basically having trouble getting Custom EXEs for custom campaigns to run. I got a copy of BW 1.16 which seems to be the preferred version, but opening the EXEs causes nothing to happen.
Using Windows 10.

Is there a different version that is supposed to be used?

Tried to post this over at Campaign Creations however they haven't allowed me to post for >1wk, so I'm assuming that new people are not allowed.

Wouldn't StarCraft forums be a better place to ask such specific questions?

No because I want to know about this too now.
What error are you getting? One of my kids loves original Starcraft and plays custom maps and campaigns all the time. He's still using the original that shipped on the box, though and he's on Fedora but it seems to work without issues for all the mods he downloads for it.
No error, nothing will load.

Starcraft forums and Starcraft Reddit seem to be Starcraft 2 and multiplayer oriented.

AFAIK, custom campaigns only compatible with 1.16.1 non-remastered version. So 1st link will teach you how to install the 1.16.1 version. Should be ethically OK since Starcraft Classic is already free, though I highly urge you buy a remastered copy to show your appreciation if you don't already own it or the 1998 disc.

2nd link also describes how some of these EXEs won't work with modern Windows, so you might have to tinker with VMs to get it working. Probably XP? There's also a link here to the archiver's Discord channel who could possibly help you out with questions.

Good luck.

As stated, I have my CDs, including Retribution and Insurrection, however, no longer have a CD drive.

I have 1.16.1 installed and it works fine.
The custom EXEs used to work under Windows 7, so I'm not sure if there is some simple setting that I am missing.

A thread on CC mentioned something about using MPQDraft, however, I could not figure out how that would work.

I appreciate the link, it looks like Doomworld but for Starcraft.

I just checked with him. A lot of the stuff no longer works with modern Windows but they all work on Linux via WINE. He even has some from PlanetStarCraft that still work.

Some can work by running the .exe in compatibility mode for Windows 7 or XP but a good chunk just won't work.

I am definitely on the too old to learn a new OS side of things.

I vaguely remember Windows did some update that screwed up 32-bit exes, but how is it that BW 1.16.1 works?

Is there a workaround by maybe using MPQDraft as that thread on CC suggested? If so, how would that work?
