From what I understand, the company SSI was known for two specific genres of games:
* Turn-based strategy games, including various wargames
* Role playing games, most famously the Gold Box and Eye of the Beholder games

My question is, what *other* games did SSI develop or publish, that do not fit into either genre?

I know there's Hillsfar, but what else?

There's quite a few, actually.

Action-RPGs like The Summoning, Veil of Darkness, Al-Quadim or Entomorph, Simulations like the Silent Hunter series or Dragonstrike, RTS like Earth 2150, and that's just from the top of my head.
CyClones

Not an RPG, not turn based, not strategy. Just techno backed alien created cyborg murder. Developed by Raven Software.
Stronghold

While based on D&D, it is not an RPG, and although a strategy game, it's not turn-based but real-time.

Fun fact: Hillsfar is also a RPG - just with some action elements added.

It's basically a "trainings-utility" for your characters from "PoR" or "CotAB", etc. since you can import these from there, level them up purposefully in Hillsfar, and then import them back into the main games.

Apart from that, the link "stax77" posted should give you a good overview of their games.

In addition, this site https://sites.google.com/site/ssihistory/Home may also be interesting.

And here's a scan of the "Spring '86 Catalog" (outdated, of course, but an interesting look into something, we gamers at the time, studied almost religiously: the new and upcoming releases by SSI): https://www.mocagh.org/ssi/ssi-86catalog.pdf

Play through with the same character more than once before transfer to Curse of the Azure Bonds. Free hp. :)

Is it possible to get 255 HP this way? (I hear there are some issues with integer overflow if you get too many HP in the Gold Box games.)

I didn't play that much but I'm sure it is. Just be prepared to hex edit your character if the total goes over 255. I played through with one Pool of Radiance character (C=64 version) and got him to 128 hp before starting Curse of the Azure Bonds. That was beyond the level maximum for his constitution. I'd have to go back and check to see if that would still be true for having 25 constitution.

Unless I'm intentionally trying, without hex editing or similar cheating, to get a character with 0 max HP.

Of course, this makes me wonder: In the Gold Box games, is it possible for max HP to underflow if a level drain would take it below 0?

Side note: Demon's Winter actually has a check to keep current SP from overflowing if it would go over 255. I know this because, in testing, I've been able to get a god to grant the same character SP twice in the same day.

You can roll over your stats in Wizard's Crown, too, if they go over 255.

Not really. You only roll for HP gains through level 9 (fighter) after that you gain 1, 2 or 3 HP a level based on class.
Maximum level for fighter is 18 which gains you 9d10+27 HP plus the constitution bonus which i believe maxes
out at 4 per level.

Except that someone mentioned using Hillsfar to get more HP than what could normally be used.

Also, when level draining is involved, it may be possible (and I believe is possible in SSI games with level draining) to take the following approach:
* When you level up, reload unless you get a good HP roll
* Intentionally get level drained, and reload unless your HP loss is small (as the game rolls again to determine how many HP you lose)
* Then, when you regain the level, reload if you get a bad HP roll

By repeating this, you should be able to grow your HP without bound.
I could tell you why you get the extra hp but I don't want to spoil the story for you.
