Here's the wishlist entry: https://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/darkest_dungeon_2_1
ssling: So we know for sure it was GOG's decision? Did devs even stated interest in releasing here? Because you seem to make fact of it.
paladin181: No, I make a fact that the game isn't here, and it is at some level GOG's fault because the first game is here and sold well. If GOG had not made the platform unpalatable for Red Hook, they would have no reason not to release here. The devs' lack of interest falls squarely on GOG if that's the case. Unless there's another reason you want to entertain, I'm all ears. It seems to me like the forum discusses things in a bubble, so if you mean something like GOG allowing DRM in games making the platform "unpalatable" for devs, I seriously doubt the devs care about that. Maybe library issues or the optics of allowing so many porn games, but I'm skeptical the devs care about even that. There is the Support Bot now but I still don't think the devs care about that since it's on GOG's end, not theirs.
Now, of course, if GOG is not responding to the devs in a timely manner as we've seen with other devs, that's for sure an issue, but I can imagine GOG prioritizing discussion with devs whose games will likely sell well over more obscure devs/pubs (as unfair as that is). Maybe GOG should be using their profit to hire more people; though selfishly, personally I don't mind them using it to pre-pay to get more AAA titles here.
I think the issue is just about money and GOG making hardly any compared to Steam: Darkest Dungeon 1 sold 2-5 million copies on Steam, according to Steamspy; that's probably tens of millions of dollars from Steam alone. Maybe the devs don't care about the little extra money to be made from a GOG release of DD2 / not worth the hassle no matter what GOG could reasonably do?
Based on 2020-21 reviews, it seems the devs weren't willing to update the game in a timely fashion on GOG (and the game may still be out of date based on a 2022 and '23 review?). This is probably why the game has a 9/10 on Steam and ~6.5/10 on GOG. That's not uncommon of course but I just want people to be aware.
I'm not saying GOG has no problems, but I feel like forum users like to assume everything is GOG's fault. :P I think the ability to get "premium" games here is often out of GOG's hands, since GOG releases just don't bring in much money compared to Steam (and I don't think there's much they could have done differently in the past to improve that, given that DRM-free is niche and will only become nichier).
