However, if you manually selcect one for that particular drive, the OS should remember it. Lets say one disk on R: and one on O:, just to create some "space" away from C,D,, and E for the OS to operate on. Especially useful for those you use often... then if you insert a drive that is or has an unknown ID, windows will just use the next free one alphabetically.
PS: Use A or even B for the one you connect often or use all the time. These was meant for floppy drives back in the day, but it just somehow got stuck with us even to this day. Windows will, to my experience, never auto select these two.
