There's probably some limit that varies by person.

I don't think I would play the self-produced "Idi Amin's Happy Funland Adventure!" even though I hear it's got excellent graphics and soundtrack.

There's definitely A point where I wouldn't support a work because of who made it, I'm just not sure where it falls on that line exactly. But it's somewhere between "law abiding pretentious d-bag" (probably play) and "war criminal" (probably not).
Not a game creator, but the same issue: I think I would find it just about impossible to disregard the fact that Roman Polanski is a child rapist, and has been a fugitive from justice for 40 years. There's a lot of art in the world. As such, I see no reason to specifically engage with the works of Roman Polanski, when I could easily watch, support, and discuss the works of artists who haven't evaded justice for heinous crimes.

A lot of art that was produced in the past was produced by awful people. I think you can make that separation between art and artist for the dead (though never fully), but I don't think you really can for the living.
