Xabyer_B: Theoretically yes, but I just say two words.
Dead Cells.
Or how to convert a great genre in something repetitive and boring. In addition it also has random maps, to kill any good game design attempt.
I must investigate if this game is like Dead Cells or it's just a mistake.
mqstout: "players of Tower Hunter: Erza’s Trial fight their way up in the world of a giant tower with random modules"
I read that as random maps. The part that makes them incompatible. Die, start over, but keep some of your stuff to be stronger next time? That can be ok with a nice tight map. But "metroidvania" absolutely requires a carefully hand-crafted map. Otherwise, it's just an action platformer.
Not necessarily. A metroidvania requires certain pre-worked sections, but the map linking point A to point B can be totally random. As long as the skill/object structure needed in the next section is maintained, the map can be random between sections. An example of this is Chasm.
