Various Sci-Fi works warned this (as well as any god-like aspirations) is a _very_ dangerous path to take. (Hell, thinking of it, Ancient Greeks (myths of) started it). Hopefully things could go (critically) wrong, to honor the lore...

vv221: The game itself is available for 10€ right now.

The expansions are extra content that is not required in any way to enjoy the game. Nobody is expected to buy everything at once, or even to buy anything at all.
Your right the game can be enjoyable without DLC. But people try to justify the high prices of DLC that barely add enough content are in the wrong. In my opinion, the price should be lower. Companies will continue to raise prices because they know gamers tend to complaint but have no impulse control. Haha

I’m mostly happy with the expansions prices for Stellaris… once the -50% discount is applied.

The base price is clearly on the expensive side, especially for the big expansions. I can see myself paying the full price, but only for the Story Packs and maybe the Species Packs.

(I used to buy only discounted expansions at first, then started paying full price when I used to play Stellaris a lot, and now I am back to patience and discounts as I no longer play it all that often)

That might be but that's probably just my problem that I want my games complete with all add-ons. Besides, as far as I remember, the last time I played Stellaris there were all kind of reminders ingame what DLCs I were missing. This kind of advertisement that constantly rubs this in is just fucking annoying.
Well, I think at this point their business..no, it's not only about selling, it's about thinking out the game, so their fruition model is no more like a videogame as is commonly intended.
It's (finally? unfortunately?) become a real digital equivalent to a tabletop RPG or rather to a miniature wargame. You get the base module, plus an unending, unstopping, yet pocketdraining treasure hoard of possible combinations of modules, heroes, creatures, etc. It's breathtaking and will keep the game actual for longer, but you'll never get the "catch 'em all" feeling of complete editions, and, all in all, it's almost SaaS, even if it weren't online multiplayer. The "seasons" logic taken to its logical extreme.

Yep. And if one is not willing to stray from videogames (or to straight put on the "Annunaki" tinfoil hat) we still had a gorgeous early example that's iconic in the 4x genre: Antarans (the ones to blame for everything in Master of Orion).

Come to think of it: thirty something years later (and on PCs we could barely dream about back then) this DLC description is basically saying "now you can play as Antarans/Orions" (like you're saying is probably up to you to choose your side)

vv221: Stellaris expansions are regularly on sale for -40/-50% one year or two after their initial release.
So right now we have the last one at full price, the 3 previous ones at -20%, and all previous ones at -40/-50%.

I would advise everyone but the most hardcore Stellaris fans to wait until at least a 40% discount before buying an expansion. Actually, I think even the hardcore fans should do that, especially if they would rather wait for the expansions quirks to be all fixed and balanced.

viperfdl: Even at a 50% discount it's still a lot of money for just one game. If I had known that a few years ago I would have waited with my buy of Stellaris.
I was curious, I was actually almost sure...and yes, it's what I suspected. It's the same publisher of Crusader Kings (it shows)
