UPDATE: The first No Man's Sky update is now out!
It's a much-awaited bundle of fixes, as well as compatibility and performance improvements and you can grab it now via GOG Galaxy auto-updates, or with the newest offline installers.

No Man's Sky a massive science-fiction game set in an infinite procedurally generated galaxy, is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com. Note that the game takes place in one persistent PC universe, shared across GOG and Steam.

In an intergalactic society, only the few set off towards the stars — explorers, those unafraid, those with nothing to lose. They set off never to come back as far as any of us are concerned. And thus, we still look up at an infinite sky, now within our reach, yet still untouched — a no man's land, a No Man's Sky.

No Man's Sky promises discovery of an infinite, uncharted universe. Its billions of stars, planets, unknown living creatures, breathtaking sights and lonely wastelands — all seamlessly connected — gradually getting catalogued by explorers drawn to the distant mysteries of the horizon, eager to leave a permanent mark in their wake.

The frontier is merciless and dangerous. Exposed to a universe of extremities in your fragile suit and ship, you'll need resources and upgrades to get far — as well as the means to stand your ground in a fight. Whether you journey to the center of it all or seek out the farthest reaches of existence, the trip will not be simple or dull. You'll catalogue things unseen, discover alien artifacts and reveal the greatest mysteries of the universe. If you survive.

Calibrate your suits for extreme insomnia, reach out and touch the No Man's Sky, DRM-free on GOG.com!

Wishbone: Let me get this straight: There is no changelog, and no standalone patch? Barring using Galaxy, the only way to get the "patch" is to download the whole damned game again and reinstall it? With no knowledge of what changes have actually been made, and whether they address any of the particular issues I am experiencing with the game?

C'mon GOG, I know you can do better than that.

JudasIscariot: When we get a changelog, we will post one. We do not have any changelogs as I write this.
I have one, simple question: where I can download this update and patch it self? Why I can't download it on site but I have to use Galaxy?

You can download the latest available version of the game from your library. The installer has been updated to the latest version of the game so, in short, it's the same version as what gets installed via Galaxy.

Given that the official reason for why you release patches later than other vendors is usually that you actually test the patches before releasing them, I kind of assumed that you knew what it was you were testing. Otherwise testing it at all seems redundant.

And there is still no word on when, or even if, a standalone patch will be made available.

Galaxy must use one hell of a compression scheme then, since people who have gotten the patch via Galaxy says it's about 900MB, which is quite a bit less than the 2.4GB compressed installer.

At this point I doubt there will be. It sounds like there is a round-the-clock scramble on the dev side and they probably don't have time to separate out the code changes into a proper patch. More likely they'll just keep throwing out whole builds until the core release is stable.

We tested the offline installer and its contents for:

a) does it work?
b) does it or does it not require Galaxy to run?
c) are there any major issues that would prevent the release of said update?

Since we cannot afford to wait for a changelog and we have people waiting for the offline version of the game, we did what we could in this circumstance: test the update and publish the updated offline version as soon as possible.

But Galaxy doesn't download the whole game again, just the files that have changed. As such, GOG must necessarily know which files they are.

Differential patching is what I think it's doing but I am not sure as I am not all that well-versed in the technical side of Galaxy.

See? That should have been posted in place of the changelog. Communication, it's a thing, and a good thing too ;-)

When you post a major update with no changelog, it really shouldn't come as a surprise to you anymore that people will be bugging you about it until you give them some sort of explanation. Why not just post the explanation from the start and save everyone, including yourselves, a lot of trouble?

But this patch still doesn't work! Have you tested it at least?

Correction: the patch apparently doesn't fix the specific problem you are having. That doesn't mean it doesn't fix loads of other problems.

Let me guess, you are using an AMD Phenom processor? Just guessing because, from what I see, that was one of the more contentious issues with the game.

Yes, I have Phenom II X4 965. And this patch *should* fix problems with tle lack of SSE 4.1. in this CPU. But didn't.

There are multiple posts from customers on Twitter that say the Patch fixes the Phenom issue.

Have you tried re-installing? Since the Phenom issue basically requires a new build, a reinstall might be better than patching.

Yes. I uninstalled whole game, download from the GOG site new build (GOG-3) and install. And I have still CTD on Hello Games screen. When I'm using SSE4.1 emulator I have crash on Initializing screen (before this patch I can play, but with big loss of FPS caused by emulator).
