A beloved, classics-inspired survival horror game from 2024, Crow Country is now available on GOG!

In this title, you’ll test yourself against puzzles and riddles as you investigate the eerie tranquility of the abandoned theme park. Don’t be deceived by the whimsical surroundings, something is awfully wrong in Crow Country.

TeleFan76: Is it me or are the keyboard controls beyond F**cking impossible, Can't rebind them either.
Yeah that's one of the major criticism the game got, keyboard controls are terrible, I wouldn't buy this unless you have a controller (and even then, I might not want to support a PC release withouth proper K&M support, like holy fuck is this 2010 lol)
Hello everyone!

Finally, I was looking forward to this coming to GOG.COM since I first saw youtubers mention and showcasing it!

It is so amazing, seeing how they perfectly capture the aesthetics and feel of the old Playstation 1 era pre-rendered backgrounds games ala Resident Evil and Final Fantasy.
And I am glad that the game is not such a ressource hog as typical modern games.

Enjoy the experience!

Kind regards,
foxgog

Hello again, 'Memecchi' and 'TeleFan76'!

Would any one of you mind to explain in a little more detail, what the or your problems with the keyboard controls of "Crow Country" are? (Of course, not being able to remap the keys is a significant downside!)

Because, I heard or read multiple times that others had issues with the keyboard controls on other games, where I can or could not share the same sentiment. I had, for instance, no issues playing "Lumo" with keyboard only--hence, I did not mind the missing patch for the gamepad compatibility, either.

Thank you in advance!

Kind regards,
foxgog

First You have w,a,s,&d to rotate the character. Then o&p to rotate the screen. Then you have to hold space to draw your gun and also aim which freezes the movement so its basically impossible.

There's no issue with a controller and the game is excellent.

GOG.com: ... as you investigate the eerie tranquility of the abandoned theme park.
Having read a plethora of books and watched like double the quantity of horror movies about the same, I stay very hesitant to enter a park like this. Or not (brave mode on)?
And to add to what TeleFan76 said, the devs apparently promised to include a revamp option on launch and a year later... yeah, it still hasn't happened :D

It's just plain laziness, every other indie throwback horror game has decent to good K&M controls

It's a shame too as the game looks really good. I suppose i could find a controller but with the old tank controls i thought the keyboard would be the far better option for me.
Together with SIGNALIS, I think this game is among the best Indie Survival Horrors out there.
Thanks and congrats GOG for the amazing release, please, also bring SIGNALIS here.
How is the story? I don't care much about this genre or aesthetics, but SIGNALIS was worth playing for story alone. Here I glanced at reviews and saw mostly people gushing over graphics.

Oh, nice, thank you!

Please also release the soundtrack!

seppelfred: Instabought. Thanks for releasing the game here!

And now, please release SIGNALIS. That would be amazing.
Yeah, Signalis would be great.
Gameplay and atmosphere is amazing. The classic style of reading and understanding what is going on through notes and environmental story-telling is also top-notch, but I gotta admit that the fact this game has no graphics or rebind controls options is sad.

Im mainly a keyboard + mouse player and this game's keyboard controls are, at best, weird.
Since Im also weird with how I map controls on keyboard, it gets close enough to what I do to play my games, still...

Comparing this to SIGNALIS, which, by the way, another amazing game, unfortunately you can't rebind controls, but at least the game offers a fixed camera that follows the player. This removes the complexity of controlling both the character and the camera to survive harsh situations. Plus, the controls are not that weird and you have three options. SIGNALIS, also, has a mod made by the community on Nexus that gives the player the possibility to rebind controls.

Crow Country devs could at least give us more keyboard control schemes and the basics graphics settings like resolution, shadows and filters. I loved it, but this fact really bothers me. I understand that clunkiness in game design, screen filters and fov are based on game design vision and the message or atmosphere the developers wanted to create through each decision, but some of these to me are necessary.

I've seen Under the Mayo videos on Crow Country and how close he apparently was to the devs during development.
It seems they're approachable and are willing to listen to players feedback.

Maybe we can request said features to be implemented now that the "final version" finally launched here on GOG?
Hm...

Amazing game anyway, congrats to the devs.

EDIT:
After posting this I was going to copy paste this 'mini post review' on the game's GOG forum page, and I saw the devs already responded to the issue with this:

Hello! Dev here, sorry about this! There was meant to be an update that went up right before launch that hugely improves keyboard controls, but it hasn't gone live yet. I should be able to get it up within the next hour.

So, yes, they're approachable and are indeed working on more settings for the game. :)
Hope we get it soon enough!
Thanks guys.

My problem with the game is on my Steam Deck, it tells me A is shoot and B is reload. No matter what I change it to in the game, the A and B buttons don't do what I press. I can switch it on my Steam Deck settings but it will change the button for interact. It is a small issue but kind of annoying. Also don't listen someone saying the game is pushing some social agenda for having a female protagonist. This game looks like the PS1 games that I grew up with. We had female characters you play as in those games like Resident Evil 1/2/3 and Dino Crisis 1/2.

The game has just been updated. Here's what one of the devs had to say:
Hello everyone!

One year ago today, my brother Adam and I launched Crow Country here on Steam, and we were blown away by the response! We've been a 2-person company for nearly 13 years now, and have been making games together for over 20 years, but this has been our most successful year by far. So many people playing, sharing, streaming, recommending and reviewing the game, all around the world, has given us a huge boost of energy to take into our next games, so: thank you.

OK, on to the good stuff! One of the pieces of feedback we've received, here on Steam and elsewhere, is that the keyboard controls for Crow Country aren't as good as they could be. So I've been working to bring them up to the level of the gamepad controls (still our recommended way to play for now!).

That starts with a new default layout, which we've labelled CLASSIC in the settings. We took a good hard look at what other survival horror games do with their keyboard layouts, listened to comments about what's off about our old layout, and come up with something that I think should feel a lot better out of the box for new players.

Next we have a layout we've labelled MOUSE. This combines keyboard for movement/aiming and some actions, with mouse to rotate the camera, plus confirm/cancel and shoot/reload mapped to the mouse clicks (plus grenades on the wheel click, or E). Mouse support has been another requested feature, and this layout is similar to some of the Resident Evil HD layouts, so hopefully folks will find it useful.

Lastly, if you want, you can return to the old layout, now labelled ORIGINAL. Maybe you got really attached to it? Well, it's there for those who want it.

All three of these layouts can be selected in the Controls Settings menu from the title screen or pause menu. When using keyboard, you'll see the last two settings switch to keyboard-specific ones. You'll see we also added an option to use modern movement (rather than tank controls) on the keyboard - another requested feature.

One last (very minor) improvement is that if you have a controller plugged in, but start using the keyboard, you'll get keyboard controls shown. Previously controllers took priority over keyboard, now it just checks whatever you pressed last.

The requested keyboard feature we haven't finished yet is full key rebinding. With the way the game is built, it's a lot more work than we'd thought, but this update lays a lot of important groundwork to make things easier. I hope we can get it fully working soon!

A non-keyboard related update for this release - we've returned to compiling with mono rather than il2cpp. Thile il2cpp can result in slightly faster code execution, it doesn't have the mod and speedrunning tool support that mono does. So back we go! Sorry to the Crow Country speedrunning discord for having broken the autosplit for a while now, hopefully you can all enjoy running this up to date version at last.

That's it from me. Thanks again, until next time!

Berzerk2k2: four screenshots
Ngl: those kb layouts still look confusing to me (too many actions on the same key).
Haven't bought the game yet, and the way it is, I think I'll wait for the option of "full key rebinding", before I do.

Still showing v1.0 & no keyboard or mouse option/changes.
