At least IAmSinistar can stop updating the list of regional discounted games. It only needs one more entry which should say: "The whole fucking catalogue!!!".

Maybe I should visit my cousin again soon.

Yeah, this day was coming. Fuck it, and them.

Trilarion: GOG said in the past that more games will make them stronger to be in a better position for negotiation. But I don't have much hope for that. Experience looks different.

I just wonder if they suspected this beforehand and kind of lied to the customers exaggerating their future negotiation potential or if they were misjudging the situation themselves?
Only suspected? More like they knew it...

The interesting part now is how they're going to handle regional price abuse, which is only going to grow in the future. The only way to really do that is to implement more and more restrictions which would historically have been called out here for being anti-consumer, but I don't see it taking long before they'll be forced to add more of them.
Yeah, more good news, great.

I'm sure this discount can now be applied to all games and we won't be able to gift games bought at those prices.
Since "[...] introducing these price changes won't affect the way gifting works [...]" means exactly that.
Probably relevant in the big picture (not that it's any news, but interesting to see it said from someone with regionally priced games here with day-one DLC and DLC for just a suit...): http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2015-03-27-capitalism-killing-games-and-the-world-lanning

Edit: Eh, somebody already made a thread about it. I still don't usually check the rest of the forums.

I believe this will be pretty close to the mark. If we see even the $5.99/$9.99 Classics get revised, then it's Game Over.

There still are a few exceptions. Maybe we should make a GOGmix of non-regionally discounted games :P

Most $5.99/9.99 games are discounted...

Matruchus: Well as expected gog just announced that they will change all the game prices in the catalog for russian users so that they will be a lot lower priced basically expanding the pricing dumping. Not that that's bad but I wonder when gog will adjust prices for other regions that were economically affected too?
avatar
HypersomniacLive: Which regions would that be? Or do you mean countries within regions, as regions are set at the moment?
I probably should have said countries. The regions as set now are totally unrelistic. At least Russia and couple of ex soviet countries have realistic prices tied to their economic status where as prices in several regions/countries are unrealistic. Eitherway at this point buying outside of sales is economically irresponsible.

But I'm really, genuinely, located in Russia, I only do not like to brag about it because of my modesty. ;)

Probably some kind of DRM (in the galaxy client) could help enforcing regional restrictions.

Currently, 47 commercial games cost the same worldwide (notable entries: Divinity series except OS, LEGO games), and (appropriately) Anomaly costs $0.70 more in Russia.

I doubt that, that's the one step they can't make. Something like what theyr'e doing with the Witcher 3 where you simply can't gift it at all if you're in lower priced regions, or other/more purchase restrictions seems more likely.

Only allowing payment options from the region in question, only allowing the same payment option to be used on x accounts, restricting purchases (even gifts) to X per account total, allowing gifts in those regions but not allow them to be activated if you're not in that region. Stuff like that is more likely I imagine, though none of them are optimal.

All of those options would seriously screw me over. I travel a lot and I am never in the same country as the issuing bank of my credit card.
Looks like we got a huge pile of Russian discount.

The base prices there look like good sale prices to me. But I guess for a lot of Russian users the prices are still higher than the normal price of free.

Shit, I take it back. Using the full Regional Price list, it's a barge full of discounted titles.

Guess I have a lot of housekeeping to do now...
